BM3 Parts Roboteq Controller AMT 4 POLE MOTORS 8mph

Postby grazy+1949 » 27 Apr 2017, 15:17

Hi BM3 Powerchair enthusiasts  ,

I am selling parts to build a BM3 Powerchair with a top speed of approx 16 mph 23 K/ph.

Roboteq HDC2450S 48-72V,150A Motor Controller w/Additional Cables *UPDATED* Nice condition
Asking price 220 GBP ONO + shipping

QUICKIE RHYTHM 8 MPH 4 POLE POWERCHAIR MOTORS (AMT GERMANY) IN BEAUTIFUL CONDITION (TESTED) .
Asking price 375 GBP ONO + shipping

I am paraplegic and was planning to build a BM3 Powerchair, so I bought these parts in the States and paid a lot of money on top of the purchase price for shipping, import duty and VAT. My pain level have got a lot worse since I purchased the parts and also as John told me at the start of my project, living in Spain , I wouldn't be able to put a Technical team together to build it and calibrate it. So I am selling the parts well below what I paid for them. The good news is that I have done some CAD Alias digital modelling for Kinethic Hand Made Bikes in Alicante. And the owner Juan-Enrique has offered to build me an all terrain trike. It will be a handcycle with adjustable E-Assist. I will follow John's lead and fit wide tyres for sand and turf. 8-)
NB: I will add the imgs very soon. I have to rest now.
kind regards

Hi, That is the model No. but it has channel 1 and channel 2 printed on it from the factory + it has 2 sets of motor cables coming out of it. (They may have stuck the wrong label on it, but I was careful to double check that it was a dual channel before I bought it.)(Please would you be kind enough to delete your comment). I only wish that you lived in Spain and were available to help me program it. Kind regards. grazy1949 :) PS: I have attached pics, so you can clearly see that it is dual-channel :)

I'd delete my earlier post if I could, but users don't have that option. The Roboteq should have two labels on it, one for the microcomputer board and one for the power board. If you could post a picture of those we can ask Roboteq to verify which model this is. Both the "S" and the two-channel have doubled up power cables - the differences are internal.

Because of a mis-communication I am still waiting for a failure analysis from them on the unit I sent to Cosmo Pabouctsidis in Paris - he hadn't read the e-mails before going from Paris to Arizona so it hasn't even been opened. Depending on what he finds, I may need to replace our second, partially non-functional but still usable unit, but it also might be repairable or need only replacement of the MCU board. If the whole unit needs to be replaced I would be interested in yours. However, Cosmo said he won't be getting back to Paris until the end of May, so I have to be patient.

Hi , I have finally assembled a team of engineers and designers who have started work on designing an E-assist Handcycle, which will have similar spec and performance to Burgaman's BM3. The team from Coventry university are planning to use the AMT motors and also the Roboteq controller. However if I get a reasonable offer for the motors, we can throw more money at the project and use wheelcentric brushless motors. Kind regards PS: Please contact me on Whatsapp if you are interested.

Hi,
Tough luck with the pain problem, I was in a similar position after rehab. Mine was down to bad posture resulting from having one femur 60 mm shorter than the other. I had never noticed and the OT didn't pick it up resulting in an 18 inch deep cushion rather than the 16 inch I needed so my pelvis was being pulled forward on the short side. As Burgerman says beware of the "experts" !
On topic, I'm interested in all the parts if they are still available, Bob 07758 328839 .

Hi Bob,

I am well into building my paraplegic EV ATV, which is based on an Elektrokart Voyager single seater golf buggy married by my very talented engineer Andy to a rehab seat from an Alu Rehaqp Netti 4U CE wheelchair. I am not sure that the ElektroKart motors or the S-Drive controller will be powerful enough, for the 20-30% climbs around the Sierras here in Southern Spain. I'll be testing it 1 July and will make a decision on the AMT motors and RoboteQ controller then. Kind regards, grazy-1949

Paraplegic EV ATV Home Build

Postby grazy+1949 » 13 Jun 2018, 01:20

Hi Guys, I am 95% paraplegic and can't do any work myself , so I have to pay crafts people for everything I need.
I was very much inspired by Burgerman's BM3, but it's pretty much impossible to build without a technical team, although I have bought the AMT 4 pole motors and the RoboteQ controller, with the view to perhaps using them to upgrade my current build with a twist grip throttle rather than the far more complex joystick.
I have sensation in my legs and can walk a short distance with sticks, but if I sit upright, I have acute spinal inflammation for the rest of the day. The same happens if I stand still for more than 60". So the BM3 would not suit my condition.
Right at this moment I am employing an engineer full time to build me a fully recumbent EV with off road and beach capabilities.
For the rolling Chassis we have bought an Elektrokart Voyager single seater golf buggy. The fully recumbent, fully adjustable seat comes from a brand new Alu Rehab Netti 4u ced wheelchair.
I have used this type of powerchair for 2 years. It can do pretty amazing things, but is very unstable and pretty easy to crash in. For this reason I am investing a few 1000 pounds in this new project. I am putting in 60% of the funding myself from my pension and raising the other 40% from donations, so if you want to contribute please take a look here: https://www.gofundme.com/graham039s-par ... powerchair
Here are some pics of the project:
https://www.learningalias.com/showmod.php?m=177&t=26
We are using the 2 x 12v lead acid gel batteries which came with the golf buggy, but when I have the money , I will use the BM3 type LiFePo4 48v 72 Ah battery pack.
best regards

What you are building is a scooter. It doesent require a dual channel controller with tank mix steering etc. And the script we use for powerchairs isnt needed. You wold really be better with a single channel controller. Also if planning on off road use you will need lower geared, lower speed motors for adequate torque, or at heavy loads encountered off road you may damage motors at 48V far too easily.

Hi Burgerman, Thanks very much for the useful feedback. I will take your advice and stay at 24v, as I shall bee doing some light off-road work and also beach work. Actually the RoboteQ controller I have is an HDC2450S and as L.Robbins explained to me it is a single channel controller which simply feeds equivalent Apms to each motor .
I suffer accute spinal pain, if I do anything even slightly demanding, so when I go off-road, I'll be going carefully.
Once a 500cc motocrosser, now I am interested :worship in going slow and enjoying nature.
Would you recommend for getting up steep hills, fitting the 2 AMT motors (as used on your BM3) using a 24v lithium battery pack and the HDC2450S controller? best regards, graham :worship

Not quite. The controller feeds the same PWM (voltage) to each motor and the motors draw current determined by voltage and mechanical load.

Steep hills, low gearing. I would use slow motors, like 6 mph max. Off road, hills, takes too much from mobility components. Or even HD 4mph ones for off road/hills.

What would be a really good solution for a vehicle that is required to run on green lanes and take in short but steep climbs. I live in Andalusia, so the ground is normal dry. My driving wheels are 6" wide 5 psi . I haven't experienced any loss of grip yet. Would the ultimate vehicle need to have an A/C motor and trans axle ? cheers , graham

Probably. And high voltages, brushless motors, geared, preferably 4 wheel drive and good long travel suspension.

To do it properly, would require the sort of motors, and high voltage controllers that a car company like tesla would use. And that would need some serious development work. Some fancy computing, 4 wheel drive, and a lot of testing and research. To do it cheaply, then the obvious cheap, and tested way is to use a petrol engine. A twist and go quad bike. Electric start, bar mounted reverse, auto clutch etc. On ebay from china for a few hundred. And they have all the power, range, and lightweight as well as suspension that you need.

Batteries only really make sense off road if we need to use something indoors as well. And your device isnt a wheelchair. So why not use a quiet petrol powered device?
E.G. These have auto clutch, electric start, are quiet, have reverse on the bars, and are cheap... Also has all the suspension, wheels, tyres, steering etc you need. And all for the cost of a set of lead batteries!
https://longtimepower.en.made-in-china. ... rices.html

Used its components in a lower seated device.
Similar golf cart type designs are also available cheap.
Far superior to battery power off road and outdoors... And as much range, speed as you can need.

Hi Burgerman,

I love all the petrol driven off-road vehicles, but I live in Spain, where the police will tolerate battery powered mobility aids. The only petrol vehicles they allow are those which have Spanish homologation. I drive in a VERY recumbent position, as I have sever spinal damage, coupled with inflammation and pain. So I have to be laying fairly flat to travel anywhere. This means 8 mph is about my limit and I have to use the pavement when it is wide enough or has an incap. lane, otherwise I use the road. I wouldn't be able to get homologation or insurance and I wouldn't be able to access remote beaches, which only have pavement access. For this and I am a 365 swimmer, the vehicle must be electric. The police mostly turn a blind eye to everything for incaps, which is electric.

best regards cheers

Diesel - a warning. The 2450S is a single channel controller. Unless Roboteq can modify it to separate the two channels, you can't use it for a conventional chair.

For programming a Roboteq controller, you might start with this thread:http://www.wheelchairdriver.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=8395&p=129283#p129283
