Is it possible to add lift to a Puma 40 and can a center foot plate be fitted (or are the casters in the way)?

Lift? Yes but expensive and super heavy.
Centre footrest? Yes, but if you intend to make the chair a lot shorter and to move the seat back say 3 inches, then you cant because the two caster arms are too close together. Another what were they thinking...

The best base for this is the salsa one that I did and for that reason.

yes, but best to buy with it fitted, the earlier Handicare, pre-Sunrise, generally had it as standard. The castors are in the way unless you have small feet. But I now have #2 chair so watch this space - just considering how to add front suspension at same time (or not).
