i checked each cell with volt meter - all show 3.3 - total pack 26.7v

i checked the balance wires and followed each wire to each cell - - all check out -

the first cell gets neg and #1 wire - the rest get 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 all on the Pos post of each cell -

why would i get a bad cell count ?

i just connected it direct - no balance wires - it works - so it has to be the balance cables - either connected wrong which i dont think

or when i made them - something didnt work on one or a few of them ? not hard to do - first time this happened - crimp and heat shrink

done them all the same way -

i see the problem - with the balance wiring - but cant figure out how to fix it - the balance wire Pos needs to be with the pos power cable - i notice that on my other packs - but it dosnt end up this way on this way

the layout of the cells how i build it - is throwing me off -

can any spot the issue and how to fix it - its a matter of wiring - needs to be rearranged - but cant see how

Ok i just tried that - moved the neg balance cable to the Neg Number 8 cell and didnt work - still bad cell count

i cant figure it out - its something with the wiring - just dosnt end up the way it does on my other packs

something is still wrong - normally i notice on my other packs - the Neg. balance ends up with the Neg. power cable - and Pos balance ends up with the Pos power cable -

but the layout i used to build this one - is confusing me now - they dont end up correct - the balance cables -

this is the pack - the layout - with no wiring - can someone figure out how to connect them that ends up with the correct balance wires in the correct cell ?

but it correct without the balance wires - the pack is fine - the balance wiring is wrong - its confusing me now - any ideas - what else is wrong with the balance wiring ?

You shouldn't have 2 leads on 1 node.
Start with the first balance wire on the pack's neg.

Then all the other 8 leads to each of positive terminals

ok which way - which number Cell - i have them numbered -

which way should i start - i will remove all the balance wires and start over

neg balance wire on Neg Cell with the sticker 8 ? and should end up with the Pos balance wire on Pos Cell with sticker number 1 ?

one cell will get two wires - 9 balance wires and only 8 cells - one of the cells get two wires - i always done it that way before

but this layout is tripping me up

Ok its working now - i removed the balance wires and started from Cell number 8 - these are the numbers i put on the cell my own stickers

so it was backwards - Cell 8 is now Cell 1 - - i will change my stickers so i dont get confused again - - but its fine now

thanks - but the first cell gets two balance wires - neg. 0 wire and 1 - the rest get one wire on pos of each cell :joint

You must be a little careful wiring u these cell balance wires. It IS possible to damage the PL8 if wired in the wrong order or worse make smoke too. So whilst this may not have happened to you, just a warning for the future and others that are following.

It's wise to follow the norm, as PL8 does, denote the Neg as cell 1 .

i have to remember for next time - - to always start with Neg. and label that Cell 1 - its all good - charging up now for the first time -

maybe i do a full discharge with the pl8 - and recharge - - then it sits till i get my chair - could be a month or two before i get it

How bad is it if i didnt use a cover on top of the pack ? if i just slide it in the chair with no cover on top - besides it gets dirty -

any reason that is a problem if i didnt cover it on top only ? i rather cover it - but space looks like its going to give me a problem -

Electrically it shouldn't be a problem to not have a cover, at least assuming that your dirt is minimally conductive.... However what happens if you go over a big bump and the pack bounces up and hits the top of the battery area? Is that metal? Could it cause a short?

Basic idea is that best practice is to ensure that nothing can possibly make contact with the terminals, no matter what happens.... Insulation is your friend!

yeah i agree - if i didnt add anything on top - and it bounced that hard - its plastic on top anyway - but what i did is - i wrapped each post with some graphing tape - just not to leave them exposed - and i will add that plastic board i got - and layered the bottom of it with silicone -

so the silicone would sit on top of the posts covered in graphing tape - - tape it down with duct tape and cover the sides so nothing can get inside - i wrapped the whole pack - best one i did so far - my only last concern is - if it fits now - it will be a tight fit -

i may have to remove the top cover from the chair first - then slide it back over it - best i can - i will see - chair should arrive in two weeks
