Victron Smart Charger

Postby Dan » 29 Mar 2023, 11:21

I bought a Victron IP65 Blue Smart Charger 24/13 (1) 230V UK BLUETOOTH- BPC241331024 charger to have a look at.

Custom set for gel. Default settings apart from the charge voltage.
Any room for improvement on the charge settings?
Is 13amps charger pushing it for rnet XLR?
Can the connector pugs used by these chargers be bought?

These chargers are nice and quiet and easy on the electric.

You MUST choose advanced and it fights you and makes the options hard to find and set custom settngs on almost every parameter correctly. Default gel setting is nonsense.

I usually choose 12A on the PL8. I have done 13 no problem though. So it is 1A over correct max spec only. Just check the XLR doesent get over hot though. 13A alows a faster bulk stage leaving longer to complete the slow bit of the charge with some benefit in overall time.

Gel, choose 14.1V CV, 8 hours minimum charge at CV, TERMINATE AT 1/500th C, or 8 hours whatever occurs first, then 13.5V float indefinitely. Or if it does 2 stage float, set 13.7V and 13.25V long term store..

Thanks.
I think the current charge output is fixed at either 4amp or 13amp? I'm not sure that I would feel comfortable with the 13amps so might hook up a direct battery connection.
I have turned off temperature compensation for now.
This Victron model can also work as a 13amp 24V power supply.
Their Bluetooth app seems to work fine. I don't think it has a custom termination setting.

You want the temp compensation.

From MK s spec sheet:
To compensate for battery temperature not at 20°C, subtract 0.005 V/cell for each 1°C above 20°C; add
0.005 V/cell for each 1°C under 20°C.

You have 12 cells. So thats 12x 0.005 or 0.06V per degree. Or rather (minus) -0.06V per degree in your settings.

This is their default temp compensation setting.
I don't think it has a custom termination setting.

You can turn off its "smart" thing, and set to 8 hours though.

Set the above to -60mV.

Since I have been using the shirley hkg charger I always have a thermometer nearby.
Another aspect to take into account is to let the batteries cool down after a trip...
