LiFePO4 Longest Distance

Postby stevember » 16 Mar 2024, 17:23

Hi all,

Been searching the forums for hours using ChatGPT and my slow brain trying to work some stuff out. Came to the conclusion asked the question you guys know a lot more than me trying to work it out.

I have a Tom Kilmore and I love it. 30 years plus in a chair I always wanted one I could mess around with! And a local garage could fix.

In May I'm taking part in a rally, cannot give much details because it's not public yet although I'm sure the media don't read here. I need to be able to do between 30 – 40 miles over a period of 12 hours.

I currently have BMS system with 8 x 3.6v 100 AH cells so 26 V. I have electrocraft MPP 36 motors with 022 gear ratio, I do have a pair of motors that need repairing of 018 which are faster which I'm hoping to get them repaired for the rally.

My question is: should these batteries be enough or what would your advice be in replacing upgrading etc?

PS in September I'm going on a 500 mile trip averaging 25 – 30 miles per day the rally is basically the launch of the bigger challenge.

Any advice is welcome, please bear in mind I'm a politician so I'm as dumb as a rock.

100Ah isnt really enough.
BMS banghead hanged
You are wasting your time on other forums... Most of those people are also dumb as a rock and think they are experts.

But if 230Ah gives around 100+ miles. Subject to hills, fat tyre rolling resistance etc so lets say 80 to be safe than you should get around 30 to 35 miles even with the fat rubber etc. But cuutting it slim, and hammering the cells and so risk of over discharge.

Why not drop a bunch of 230Ah cells in as they will fit. Why only 100Ah? Was this a long time back?

8 of these drop straight into my BM2 chair. So probably does in yours. Find similar wherever you are.
Dollars and euros, same thing! 1 to 1.

Or cheaper but B grade, but not bad by all accounts...

Brilliant advice, thank you.

It was about three years ago, but it might have been cost on my part forcing Tom to do that.

And if I change the motors with the different gearing so I gained speed but lose torque it shouldn't necessarily make a difference on distance?

Do you have any other advice for me as I have the opportunity to have this chair makeover sponsored?

I have also been looking for slightly narrower wheels to go on the back

Yes it will. The faster the chair is then the taller its gearing is. Thats what makes it faster. And that akes it draw more current at every speed and load. So an 8mph chair will go about a third less distance than a 4 mph one. Even if both chairs drive at 3mph. Again, no problem with 230Ah pack.

Take a look at the 120/60-8 tyres and rims on my salsa.

Yes I like them, I've tried to find them with no luck in the past several times. Do you have a link, or is it via supplier only?

I'm guessing I would have to make or get fabricated a new hub to connect onto the electrocraft shaft?

New hub? Yes.

Or another adapter.

They can be had from eBay, honda pit bike or monkey bike specialists, or shirley did mine for a good price. Tyres came from same places. I have several different ones. All same size and tubeless.
