GOOD powerchair battery and motor cable

http://stores.shop.ebay.co.uk/Kojaycat- ... QQ_armrsZ1 Shop

For those looking for cable. There are at least 3 on this board including me! This is the GOOD stuff. True 10 sq mm and tinned, very low resistance hard high temp outer. Very hard to find. Makes your powerchair go further and climb ramps etc without the low voltage protection cutting in early... I just ordered a second lot... And another 10 Anderson connectors. I am going to buy shares...

This is the stuff the manufacturer should use if they had any clue. Any less than this and you are losing power! Some cable sold as 10mm is really just 8 gauge. Which is much smaller. This is the real stuff.

Just had my battery harness and motor harness made out of this stuff. Very difficult to work with but the finished loom looks 'the dogs bollocks'! Will get some photo's up soon.

You were one of the builders I was thinking of!

Makes up leads that actually look beefy! When you compare this stuff to the crap the manufacturers use (and the ends) it lets you see the been counters at work! And even this stuff is only just up to the job.

Why do you think its hard to work with? (interested)

I found it easier than some since its pre tinned and the outer is very strong and cut resistant and heatproof. So soldering with a flame to battery ends or Andrson connectors doesent melt it?

Actually its not me that made the harness, I'm a tetra so no hand grip, but my mate made it and he found it difficult to cut and feed into small connecter plugs for the DX2 module. Its just a bit rigid, inflexible but job done and a quality job too! :D

What length is required per chair [F55s] and how many Anderson connectors are required [per F55] would you estimate?

And is it a help to buy a mix of colours?

Anyone?

For a STOCK f55 you need more cable as the battery tray needs to slide out. You need to measure them in the slid out place from a long length. And a stock chair uses 3 pairs of connectors so you can swap batteries. Colours are up to you. electricity doesent care. But cable length and connectors add resistance. So...

The best way to do it is to join the 0v and the 24v to ONE lead and directly to the controller. No connectors. Then just join the other two battery terminals together with a short loop and two terminals. So this way needs less cable, and no connectors... But then battery swaps need a spanner. But unless you have half a wiring loom on the spare batteries they do anyway...

And on the modified chair the same but shorter still as you can disconnect before you slide them out...

Grey anderson connectors are cheap on ebay. I pay about 1.80 each and get 10 at a time. Black is better where you see them on vans, dashboards, powerchair charge connectors, etc. iF YOU WANT USE 24V = YELLOW, RED = 12V ETC.

So your chair uses approx...?

And have you figured out if the discrepancy between the amp figures you observed and the figures quoted by P & G is due to cable issues?

They are all different... And all have different cables. One uses stock cables. One uses longer cables and 3 pairs of connectors. One uses heavy cables and no connectors.

All have 2 extra connectors on the side http://www.wheelchairdriver.com/wheelch ... ectors.htm for charging from van/wall and powering other stuff like drills, computers, other chargers for helicopter, etc. And other powerchairs. Right now all three are connected together via Y leads and on charge via the 12v x2 marine charger.

When I get up, one chair will be disconnected. The others remain on auto charge/float until I want them. :ugeek:

Volt drop? Not yet. Will test when I get chance.

Speaking of connectors...

Burgerman,
Can you recommend some good battery connectors [on ebay?] - I assume most batteries have a common type of terminal [unlike Valence]?

Also, what are your thoughts on the Grand-Voyager-battery-saving solar panels on ebay?

There's a suitcase type which might have some advantages but the flexible joint might present a metal fatigue issue [like some folding laptops] and I need a panel that provides enough amps - - what do you reckon?

Battery terminals? Round DIN terminals I buy brass ones from halfords. As good as any.

Solar panels. I use a 3.6 watt one. There are many different types. Anything from 3 watts to 5 watts unregulated wont hurt. Because they typically make power only in day, and only make "full power" in high summer pointed directly at the sun. Bigger ones like 5 watts and abobe are ok if regulated. With say 13.4 to 13.6 maximum volts.

In winter (lack of sun!) I use a home made 13.2v supply. Plugged into a cigar lighter socket.

Bigger is better if regulated so it cant overcharge in summer. Because it works ok in winter too!

They are not battery terminals!
They are cable ends, or ring terminals.

They should be a snug fit on the cable. Depends what size cable you have.

Then soldered with care! If your cable is 10 sq mm then get the matching size.

The people selling them on ebay usually have a variety of sizes. And a description of how they relate to the "code" when ordering. Get some heat shrink tube too to keep it all tidy.

This relates to some bigger ones but you get the idea! You want 8mm bolt hole and 10sq mm cable. Which means you would order 10 -8 ones. Get a huge bag! To practice...

Quote from a seller:
You are buying FOUR battery eyelet connectors suitable for connecting a 25mm sq section battery cable (the cable entry hole size in the connector is approx 7.00 mm dia.) to a stud mounting. We offer this terminal in the following sizes 25-6, 25 -8, 25 -10, 25 -12. The number AFTER the dash indicates the size of stud the connector is designed to fit to, i.e. 25 -10 will connect a 25mm sq battery cable to a 10mm (M10) stud. The connectors can either be crimped (using specialist tools) or soldered onto the cable.
All the 25-? variants are the same price, please advise by way of eBay messenger what size of stud hole you require.

We offer all sizes of this popular connector from 6mm sq cable up to 240mm sq cable fittings! We don't list all available sizes but should you wish to purchase other sizes please advise us and we will list the required size and quantity.
