Thank you very much for your prompt response and help, I can see that you have helped a large number of people in this forum.

As for my case, I could not make my OEM switch to ACTIVE, I made the connections as you indicated.

I attached photos of my VSI to see if you can still help me with the problem.

Additionally, I would like to know if the software has to be specific or it can be any of the ones mentioned in this forum.

Your software is fine and will program the VSi .

Please post pics of the FTDI USB to XLR build.

Post screenshots of the COM Port number assigned to the FTDI in Windows Device Manager.

Post screenshots of any error messages.

Rom, just wondering what the issue is that you are trying to repair with the program ?

I have a few of these lately and it was a blown Capacitor (under the board, the large ones) that needed replacing.

Dear, again thank you for your answers, I attached a link where is the video of how I am doing the procedure, I hope it can be used to diagnose the problem of connection with the OEM.

The problem that my VSI presents is seen in the video, mobility does not work, it turns on and off LED 1 of the speed level.

Sorry guys but Windows10-illiterate old bloke needs help again.

Have Rnet dongle connected and for the past six hours have been trying to get Comms Active with no success. Been through many references I can find here using search but without success. Most of it seems to be about problems with wiring and components rather than this dongle.

Dongle is recognised by my Windows 10 laptop and icon appears in Control panel - 'devices and printers' but no comms port assigned.

Opening software shows 'Unable to open serial port'. Tools - Comms - all options show 'Unable to open comms port'

In device manager - 'universal serial bus controllers' Rnet dongle is listed. In properties it's reported to be working correctly and gives 'location' as Port_#0001.Hub_#0005. (Not sure what that means but it certainly doesn't work on comms port 1 - or 5 for that matter.

HELP. I would be very grateful if someone could post a simple step by step guide to get the dongle to show 'comms active'. Thanks.

Looks ok.

There is NO need to play with any of the Com port settings.

One flashing led suggests a low battery charge.

I'm not sure what is wrong or if the Adafruit board will actually work.

The batteries are 100% charged, it is due to a problem with the joystick since if I make some movements in it and switch to led 5 of the speed level.

I do not think they are batteries because they are new and just charged.

I wanted to connect to the OEM because that way I would observe particular faults, but I still do not achieve it. :(

Any way to communicate with CAN BUS?

Just for my information only. Put a volt meter on your batteries and tell me the exact voltage.

R-net doesent ask for a serial port. So I suspect you are using the wrong software?

I'm using the software and dongle borrowed from ICEUK. You are correct that it doesn't ask for a serial port, but a dialogue box opens if the USB light on the dongle does not stay on when the cable is plugged in and the programming software is opened.

Thats not a full charge.
If an AGM battery is actually fully charged its around 12.95V TO 13.05V after 48 hours unused.
If a gel battery is fully charged after 48 hours sitting it is 13.10 to 13.20V.
At 12V its effectively as discharged as you will ever want to go in a powerchair.

At 25.5V its around 12.75 per battery or around 85 percent charged. Even if your charger SAYS its 100%... They all overvolt and undercharge.

A full charge takes 16 hours.

For MK.

You CANNOT use CAN-BUS or anyone else's software.

Try this just in case your FTDI Chip is counterfeit.

Yes, I am. These are screenshots which hopefully will convince you I am using the correct Rnet software.

All I wish to do is follow the advice you gave me a few weeks ago to increase amps to try and cure my feeble Puma 40 tilt actuator. ICEUK was kind enough to lend me his dongle. I already had the software from his OEM DVD some time ago.

I need advice on how to assign a comms port to this dongle. I have tried everything I know (which is very little about Windows 10) and failed miserably. I'm hoping someone can guide me through exactly what I need to do. I apologise if this has been asked a hundred times before but I've spent hours looking through the forum and haven't found anything that helps.

I think your a bit confused about this Rnet dongle and software -

Your chair - does it use a Rnet system ? You Joystick dosnt look to be an Rnet model - most likely its not Rnet and your chairs electronics is NOT Rnet -

you cant use Rnet software or dongle with anything other than Rnet Electronics on your wheelchair -

i think thats the problem your having - you dont have Rnet Electronics on your chair - i could be wrong - can you take a good picture of your wheelchairs Controller ? maybe someone can help you with that picture -

Thanks for trying to help mate but you are mixing up my posts with someone else's. The photo you are referring to was not posted by me.

The chair I'm working on definitely has an Rnet controller. I have used this same dongle and software on it before' admittedly on a different PC, so I know it can work.

I just wish someone - anyone - could tell me how to assign a comms port in Windows 10. Please!

I seem to remember mentioning this a long while back! :fencing

Because the R-net software never asks for ports...

And the screen shot shows that greybird is not using r-net software but the old original for VR2/Pilot Plus, etc.

Thanks Woody & others. :clap :clap I'll put it down to extreme old age! Don't laugh. You'll get there too.

I realise now that you were all correct and I apologise for wasting your time. :blond

I have just discovered my original Rnet software on my desktop PC and had forgotten it was lost from my laptop when it was upgraded. :cussin
Tomorrow's a whole new day to play with it.
Thanks for you patience.

You program via the charging port of the joystick pod.

The joystick pod AND the control unit MUST be connected together .

They must be connected to 24v AND the pod must be TURNED ON.
