Hi,
What is the device e.g. 27c512 and is it soldered in or in a socket

Assuming it is in a socket you just need to unplug it, plug it in a universal programmer read the device, plug in your blank EPROM and program it.

I do have a programmer and a wide selection of different types of EPROM. Generally as long as the size is correct you will be OK, but the speed may sometimes be critical, also it is usually better to stick to the same manufacturer as timing differences have been known to cause problems.

Are you sure it is an EPROM and not an EEPROM, most modern kit uses EEPROMs, often built into a microcontroller and therefore very difficult to copy.

To actually program an EPROM you need a universal programmer, something like this:

when you buy EPROMs they might not be blank, to erase them you will need a UV box e.g.

Issue. Its not in a socket, I dont think from memory. But isnt a window type. So is likely an eeprom. I will take a look soon.

Hi,

If it is a few years old it could be a PROM, which can be copied to an EPROM, either way it will need unsoldering, which may damage the PCB.

Hello everyone. Im new to this site and I already love you guys!

I just picked up a used chair with the VR2 and im working on turning it into a robotic telepresence device for my hospitalized wife. We have 4 young kids and i wanted her to feel like she was still part of everyday life.

I will be using arduino to control the system. I want to interface with the joystick for over-internet control.

I would like to reprogram the VR2 but im not finding somewhere to download the software.
Fredman, I know you were looking for it as well and found it, did you have to sign up and pay for the SW?

I have many computers around the house (Mac, Win XP, Win 7) and can install whatever version and drivers that seem to work best for people.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Got the software!
Next i need the cable. I dont want to order one, i would like to find something locally that will work. I was looking at the schematic of the nokia part, and im wondering if every cable has a different IC chip to control data flow. or can i just go to microcenter and pickup a usb to rs232?

Oh Nuts Woody , I went for the Icom as I thought some trubbles had been had with the Kenwood , guess I had better drop them a mesg to change it .. bummer.

Hey Guys,

First post! I am working on a robotics project that is centered around a hoveround mpv4 I picked up in working order at a thrift store for 20 bucks! I initially took the seat off and used the metal mounting plate it was bolted too as an attachment point for the platform I made with some built in tie down loops. I was using the thing to move by stacking up boxes on the platform then walking behind the "mover" as my wife and I called it and controlling it with the vsi controller in my hands! It actually made moving kinda fun and was an awesome feeling like using a rc car on steroids! I am looking at using a xbee or some other radio along with a stm32 arm controller dev board I picked up to give it a bit more on board logic. I am currently making a Ftdi to 1-wire cable so I can interface with it but I have a bit of a problem. I have searched around the forums and haven't been able to find any links to download the programming interface and manual so any help in that would be greatly appreciated! I saw the qlogic links but I am guessing that wont work with this as the vsi is 1-wire and the qlogic uses a usb can interface. I will probably start a repeater thread for my robot project if you guys wanna follow.

I've just made a cable, using a Kenwood cable, but not the radioarena one. Unsurprisingly, it doesen't work.

However, i'm more interested in why it doesn't work and i've been doing some research on this.

As far as I can tell, an open-collector buffer is required to allow TX and RX logic levels to co-exist on the bus. It appears that some TTL drivers have this built in whilst others don't.

This document here, which details Dallas 1-wire protocol, suggests a circuit and describes how this vaiant of 1-wire serial works. I've also seen simpler, single-transistor buffer circuits online.

I am guessing that PGDT use a simiar microcontroller to the atmel devices and hence also a similar comms protocol.

There are a selection of cheap (a couple of pounds or so) USB -> TTL devices on ebay. I know that some of these chispets support 1-wire, it's just a case of isolating which specific chipset does this.

I'll probably go ahead and order the radioarena cable, but I may also play with some of the above to see if I can get it to work.
