Re: Where to find everything powerchair related

Sorry if it's offtop here, but I have to ask some tough questions for me.

I'm planning to build BM2/BM2v2 clone in nearest future and slowly piece by piece looking for parts (lack of money, long project, etc..).

As I already have programming cable for VR2 my choice should be VR2 90A or Pilot+ 100A (Pilot+ is better because of more amps, right? Does programming cable (PC) from VR2 compatible?).

There is plenty of used Pilot+ 100A on ebay, but...

1. Is it ok to buy such used Pilot+ controllers from ebay?
2. Almost all these controllers have no any cables (from controller to motors and batteries). Where I should get cables? Buy new from dealers or make by myself, are they still available?
3. Where to get lighting module for Pilot+? Dealers? (I have no local dealers, so only this available to me: http://parts.sunrisemedical.eu/template/index.php)
4. Though there is plenty of Pilot+ controllers, there a very few Pilot+ joysticks. Where to get them also?

Yeah, I suppose best way and cheapest way is to buy used F55 with Pilot+100A, lighting and 4-pole motors in good condition and cheap :) but it is almost impossible.

I have talked to Sunrise Medical dealer about buying F55 frame, forks and so on, and they told me that F55 is discontinued and quote: "Unfortunately we don’t supply those parts anymore.".

So my current strategy is:
    buy used F55, preferable cheap (because of frame, maybe forks, seat frame, lights etc);
    buy used controller and joystick (pilot+);
    buy new motors - 4pole, 10/13kph (groove I suppose?);
    build lithium pack with headways (24V);
    buy all other stuff that are not related to powerchair manufacturers;
    do custom work.
Any advices? Where am I wrong? What's the best way to do that from scratch with limited budget?

Thank you a lot.

This board has priceless information! Some topics I read more than few times. Thank you guys for sharing.

Basically all you said. Exept that groove motors really require 120A Rnet controller.

Thank you, it's a valuable remark. 120A Rnet is good, but... programming tools pretty expensive as I understand.

What kind of available motors are perfect fit for BM2v2 (green one) like powerchair with pilot+ and lithium by your opinion?

I hope this is going where it should?

I have just purchased Sterling Power PSP12202 Battery Charger for my small chair Cheap Kymco while I am trying to convert an old Mk1 F55s.

https://www.eurobatt.co.uk/sterling-pro-sport-waterproof-battery-charger-12-24v-20a-2-out-psp12202

The company will also refund your V.A.T via you completing the relative form, for now, as they are changing their website to have this incorporated into the purchase process very shortly.

They provided an excellent no quibble service.

They also do competitive prices on all their batteries.

You realise thats 10A + 10A at 24V? It wont charge your chair at 20A.

Hi John,

Burgerman wrote:You realise thats 10A + 10A at 24V? It wont charge your chair at 20A.

This is being used as an "onboard" charger, in the notion that the charger is conected to the battery terminals on a permanent basis - charging two batteries at 10A each At 12v, plugged into an RCD extension lead, then to any "Cafe or Resturant" socket.

That will work. But obviously it will take about 2 to 3 hours or so to put back 10 miles.

wheelchair upholstery, backrests, arm pads etc
the sunrise ones are poor quality nylon, single stitched along the seam. I had one split down the seam within a month of buying one.

it took me a long time to find someone that does a decent job, but I did and can highly recommend her. I had a couple of backrests done, which was measured from the old one I sent them, and some padded arm rests re-done. they specialize in wheelchair upholstery, they use a strong fabric. job was done quickly, and expertly. http://www.pyc.rocks/
definitely worth calling if you are after some upholstery.

Caster rims

Hi John, it's been a while since I've commented on anything but I'm awaiting things arriving back from powder coating and my middle daughters gets married in Greece a week on Friday so funds have been tight, hence my lack of progress on my F55. Anyway, I've been looking at the casters on the site above and wondered if you could tell me which size rims are the best match for me? I was going to use the existing casters with new 3.00 x 4 tyres which I've already bought so which size hubs should I buy to match the tyres and should I buy their wheel bearings and if so which size. Thanks for the help and advice, my head is mashed with all the endless wedding plans, not to mention the speech!!!!!

I think their plastic rims are the correct width for those tyres and wider than the metal ones.

Hi John, I thought they are all plastic? Sorry, it might just be me that can't see it!!!! Is the Primo hubs which say for 9inch tyres only? Also which bearings should I use to fit back on using existing size spacers etc.

Thanks again John

Whatever rims you use they will need different axles/spacers/fasteners etc.

http://www.trampaboards.com/wheels-c-48.html all the top row, 7, 8 or 9 inch wheels are 4 inch diameter rims. But only the 3 spoke ones are really wide enough.

http://www.trampaboards.com/superstar-wheels-c-26.html metal centres, plastic rim, may be narrower...

http://www.trampaboards.com/9-inch-wheels-c-298.html plastic, should be same size / width as you use now. Maybe a fraction narrower but not enough to matter.

Thanks John, that's brilliant! They actually do all kinds of spacers etc too. I'll order what I need today, it also helps that they're really good value for money too! That's a really good find.

This site as probably been posted somewhere before, but it's a great site if you're looking for 8" to 10" tubeless wheel rims. These small tubeless rims are extremely difficult to find in the US. About the only thing I've been able to find in the US are tubeless rims for trailers. But I haven't found anything that will take a tire less than 16 inches in diameter.

Anyway here is "Mad Munk":

http://www.madmunk.com/p0/bike-spares/2.htm

I think they are based in Belgium. Burgerman.one of his wheel rims from these folks.

If anybody has figured out a source of small tubeless rim's in the US, please post and let us know!

cant find anything here - maybe its just me -

They will fit, if you make up whatever spacers etc that will be needed.

Beats me how hard it is to find things in the US. Theres 300 million of you! Should be easier. Theres only 68 million here.

your right but at the same time - a bunch of idiots here also - and when it comes to wheelchairs forget it -

you mean the spaces between the wheel rim and fork - would have to find one that fits it - i like those -
but will get the original 9 x 3 with forks first - since i am not paying or very little i may have to cover - but those tires i find in the Uk only i dont find them from here -

i did find some of these now

http://enableyourlife.com/10-x-3-260-x- ... y-tire.asp

but dont think they would fit my fork - when i get it - made for 9 x 3 tire -
but i still dont find the forks for the 10 x 3 tires from this link -

if i can find a fork for them - then maybe can think about doing the crash chair with those instead of 9 x 3 kind - what i dont know also is the internal bolts stem etc, - what size kind to get for the larger forks if i do find them - i am not very good with figuring these things out - tire sizes - hardware etc, - and being that i cant do the work either - i may have to hire a tech to do it for me - but would be nice if at least i had the correct items so i dont waste my money-

Too much red tape in the U.S.
For example, I'm told that those Kitaco 3.5" x 15" and tires have not been approved by the regulatory authorities and hence no import to the US is allowed.

Just thought I'd let you know that I ordered a set of the 9" wheels from trampaboards complete with sealed stainless steel bearings. They arrived two days later and are perfect, so thanks John for a great find. I'll post pictures on completion of my build as soon as is done.
