How in this case the shift of the joystick affects the outputs of the Arduino?... Ummm What?

The Arduino feeds 'fake joystick voltages'
eg, Joystick is physically neutral but fake 'full speed' volts are fed to the outputs of the Joystick from the Arduino.

Yes both work at the same time in parallel ...ish, the reality of using the joystick and RC / Arduino to input two different directions (at the same time) will only end up in those vectors being added and interpreted by the controller in an unpredictable direction/speed. drunk2

it could be very funny if I manually control a robot in the garden in front of the house,, and my son would find the RC device and play with it.

That' s why I think to add a switch to turn the Arduino off when hand riding, but I was not sure if Arduino or digipot outputs survive voltage on pins when it is OFF.

The Arduino becomes the only voltage OUTPUT .
BOTH the R/C and Joystick INPUT into it ....thus the Joystick signal can be set as taking precedence over the R/C signal.

E.G. IF Joystick INPUT signal is greater than or less than neutral the value of 2.5v ( plus or minus a deadband value ) THEN joystick has control ...ELSE... R/C INPUT has control.

fdew wrote:I have read through the entire thread and the blue tooth thread and it looks like the Blue Tooth version is simpler. Also it looks like I don't need a omni box if I am willing to do some minor hacking of the main or attendent pod.

So for blue tooth it looks like the path is Phone, your box, hacked Pod. Is that correct?

BTW as I said in the last post, this is only to move a unmanned chair on and off a trailer.

Thanks again.

My friend bought your kit and I installed it in the pod for his Action Track chair. The product is well made, The directions are clear, The cable with everything ready to go including a short ribbon cable for connecting to the Joystick makes things easy. It is installed, and works great.

Thank You for a well made useful product.

Some background. The Track chair allows my friend, a experienced hunter, to get out and go anywhere. He can run that chair up and down hills full of brush that I have trouble navigating on foot. For some reason when he bought it, it was not available with any remote. This made it impossible for him to load onto and off his truck or trailer! We did the research and found that although it is a very unique chair it uses a standard controller. He bought a attendant control and made a long coil cord extension cord for it. and his problem was solved.

The next problem was that this chair is used in the wild. No mater where the attendant control was stored, sooner or later a tree or bolder would find it and take out the cord or connector. When this happens the chair is dead until you go under the seat and disconnect the attendant controller.

The Blue Tooth control from a phone is a HUGE improvement.

@ woodygb so you have made a unit that plugs in and mimics the joystick that i can plug my RC gear in to?

if so this is a good thing as my mower that i built over 6 years ago needs to be rebuilt / replaced and i would rather build a new one with improvements

the one i built years ago uses a 2x60 sabertooth with a direct connection to the receiver as a controller but it really brutal on the gearboxes(i have stripped 3 boxes and am out of spares now)

https://youtu.be/rEsIP9WaSo0

i would like to use all the gear i just bought on a 2nd hand wheelchair base to control the motors on the new mower i am planing on building

and here is the chip that is in the joystick Triaxis® 3D joystick position sensor

i am no wiz with electronic but can swing a spanner and use a welder (ex-motor mech) and have a hotair station that i tinker with electronics with have soldering iron and am not scared to use it just need to be pointed at what joint to use it on LOL

Would also be interested to know, as there are a few of us out there building remote control mowers from old wheelchairs.

There are a 2 or 3 threads on this forum that have information on R/C and Android Bluetooth control of a wheelchair.

I plug an interface in at the joystick ribbon for both R/C and Bluetooth control.

So does that mean you are piggy backing the output signal to allow dual control?
Allow normal joystick control but can over ride?

Hi from another Aussie, I'm on the Gold Coast.
...depending on how far you need to control it, the BT version may not give you the range you need.
(some of our back yards are big)
....however, Woody has you covered there too.

He has a very similar one that will do RC...or used to, still have them Woody ?

Yes Tony I still make them up....

However my price with shipping was a bit too much for Adverse and he is sticking with the Sabretooth..

yep being on a disability pention and the $conversion rate makes it way out of my range the full mower i made 6 years ago i scavenged all the parts for it and only cost me about $300AUD(167.016GBP) to make

I believe most of us here are up-cyclers of one type or another.
As per my PM to you, Woody's costs are very reasonable - I sent him a few of my boards and the postage from here to the UK is pretty much like buying gold

All i can suggest is that you spend a lot of time , as its free...
Read the mass of information here on this site and build up a unit of your own.

On the Disability Support pension we are blessed with one thing....loads and loads of time :admirer
7 years i have been trying to get into the water two blocks from my house to go fishing, tiny steps, tiny tiny steps but i am getting there.

I am a registered NDIS provider as Green Mobility Pty Ltd , direct reimbursement (from the NDIS) might also be an option for you as part of your Core Supports funding.
I operate as not for profit.

Ive a 15 year back log of stuff i have been trying to do ...one of them is more videos on the stuff i thinker with (inc the BT unit i purchased from Woody)
...time...if only i had time...oh wait i have shat loads... czy

I strongly suspect that most of what Woody was charging is postage.... If I recall correctly most of what he is did with his units he described well enough to call it open-source hardware, and fairly simple at that....

Basically it is an Arduino (or clone of one) that gets input from your choice of BT module, RC receiver, or ??? and the actual joystick. The Arduino converts that signal to control a couple of digipots which plug into the joystick wiring in place of the actual stick... The Arduino code looks at both sets of inputs and uses whichever is not 'neutral' to generate the chair control signals it sends to the joystick pod...

(The above is high-level, I am probably skipping over some important bits, corrections welcome...)

Bottom line is that if postage for one of Woody's units, (or if you are cheap...) is excessive, it is quite possible to build your own...
