Easy mistake to make, different short hand over here down under.

I put a 9.1v zener in and it fired up and connected with Dynamic Wizard...i didnt even fry anything, sweet.

Can someone tell me what captures they want ?

Purchased a super cheap USB to Serial cable, just has 4 pin outs.
Ideal for connecting to Anubus's Orange adapter board.

Its a PL2303HXA or something that does not have drivers for windows 10, due the glut of counterfeit chips on the market
(Said it was a different chip in the listing...)

Its not working with the Orange board...at the moment.

Connect the Logic Analyzer to it and the working factory USB to Serial adapter to make comparisons.

The factory signal is inverted
-- the Cheap one non inverted....

I will try inverting the signal using some of the cheap $1 spare Max485 dev board i have ...somewhere about here...

This is all on a Windows 7 32bit laptop i keep for working on the chairs/scooters.
...not that i tried all that hard to get the full setup working on the Win 10 machine , there are drivers for it though and i did get the cheap USB to serial cable to work.

Its just a bit easier to have the laptop sitting next to me on the desk and the big screen for looking at the data stream.

Tony,

I am confused by your description.

Connect the Logic Analyzer to it and the working factory USB to Serial adapter to make comparisons.

The factory signal is inverted

Is there such a thing as a factory USB to Serial adapter and what "signal" is inverted .... RS232 Serial or TTL Serial ?

As far as I am aware BOTH the DWIZ-ADAPT and the Anubis board output RS232 Serial ...... TTL serial could be considered an inverted form of this.
https://www.sparkfun.com/tutorials/215

Is it possible that you've purchased a USB- TTL Serial cable ?

Or could i just connect the 'non inverted Rs232' to the T1 Data node ?

If there is no smoke i guess the answer is YES,
In other news the MAX485 inverted the signal properly and its now outputting the same as the more expensive cable.

RX is already inverted so i should be able to connect that directly to Anubus's board.

A further note on the Anubis Schematic ...
The pin marking does not follow the convention of RX to TX & TX to RX ...it's actually RX of Anubis board to RX of RS232 Serial.... & TX of Anubis board to TX of RS232 Serial Adapter.
Wizard_orange_programmer.jpg

RE POD DATA .....QUOTE FROM ANUBIS POST.

It may look like a RS-232 serial but it's not RS-232 standard.
It is Serial comunication alright but neither RS-232 nor TTL logic levels!
It's more like TTL-serial with CMOS voltage levels.

Logic level 0 = 1-2V
logic level 1 = 10V

TTL
logic level 0 (LOW) = 0-0.8v
logic level 1 (HIGH) = 2v-5v

while the RS-232 levels are

Logic 0 = anywhere from +3 to +25V.
Logic 1 = anywhere from -3 to -25V (negative voltage)

On most PCs these signals swing from -13 to +13V.

CMOS gate circuits have input and output signal specifications that are quite different from TTL. For a CMOS gate operating at a power supply voltage of 5 volts, the acceptable input signal voltages range from 0 volts to 1.5 volts for a “low” logic state, and 3.5 volts to 5 volts for a “high” logic state. “Acceptable” output signal voltages (voltage levels guaranteed by the gate manufacturer over a specified range of load conditions) range from 0 volts to 0.05 volts for a “low” logic state, and 4.95 volts to 5 volts for a “high” logic state:

Ive purchased this
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/USB-To-RS232-TTL-UART-PL2303HX-Auto-Converter-USB-to-COM-Cable-Adapter-Module/322688074795?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

Factory USB to RS232 cable outputs inverted TX signal, Cheapie above = normal non inverted signal.

Cheapie + MAX485 gives me inverted same as the factory cable.

Brains wants to sleep but trying to get it to work a while longer, its fun tinkering.

OK ...You should be specific on the TYPE of signal and where in the connection/ flow your measuring.

The pod outputs a Logic level 0 = 1-2V logic level 1 = 10V .
This is neither RS-232 nor TTL logic levels! It's more like TTL-serial with CMOS voltage levels.

The DWIZ - ADAPT and the Anubis board converts this oddball signal to RS232 Serial.
The RS-232 standard a logic high ('1') is represented by a negative voltage – anywhere from -3 to -25V – while a logic low ('0') transmits a positive voltage that can be anywhere from +3 to +25V.

This RS232 Serial signal can be converted to TTL Serial with a MAX3232 or similar......

TTL serial (transistor-transistor logic). Serial communication at a TTL level will always remain between the limits of 0V and Vcc, which is often 5V or 3.3V. A logic high ('1') is represented by Vcc, while a logic low ('0') is 0V.

Well thats not a good picture as it also has the RX data from the Power Chair after the TX 0xA0 data of the Wizard program.
You get the idea tho.

I really should stop but its increasingly looking like the cable i purchased might connect directly to the chair, at least on the TX side.

I am working from the Manual woody, not Anubus's notes.

The Arduino inside the joystick buffers the signal and re-transmits it.
The Shark bus is not directly connected to the data port on the XLR socket.

I am taking it in steps probing as i go.

Mostly, i just wanted to know why the cheapie cable did not work on the windows 7 32bit laptop

Hi all,

I have tried to construct the interface from Anubis (with help from the postings from woodygb) for modifying the settings of my wife's powerchair: a 3-wheel Excel Galaxy II, with a Rhino 2 160A controller.
The Wizard software does not find any controller, it keeps on scanning a number of addresses (visible in the lower, right hand side).

I checked, double checked and triple checked the Anubis schematic, should be allright.

Did buy a cheapo CH340 interface: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1PCS-CH340G-US ... 3584647710.

I did all the wire-work, connection is via the 4-pin mini-fit Molex on the controller.

Tips concerning debugging would be helpful, what to check? (and yes, I did order a Logic Analyzer today :) )

Buy a QUALITY lead that uses an FTDI Chip.... the cheap CH340 has never worked for me with the Anubis build.

I remembered I had an old PC with a serial interface on the motherboard, I'll have a try with that system.

Do you have any easy way to measure common mistakes made that can be spotted with a Fluke 75 Multimeter? (I know, it is 35 years old, but still my favourite meter)?

Best regards,

I was able to see with the Logic Analyzer that the reason the CH340 chip / cable will not work is that the signal is ( invereted or non inverted ) opposite to what is needed.
...but only on one wire, the other is ok.

It was quite a while ago, divorce, new meds, better brain function has meant getting out in the community for the first time in 13 years and catching up on what has changed in my local community. Its been fantastic but also meant that the 'orange adapter' has been sitting on the desk in front of me being de prioritized.

Building this Mash up at the moment to try and loose some weight from sitting around (and eating to much).

Erik, per my notes above, you need the other Cable per Woody's advice.
I have a factory orange adapter, and the cheap CH340 cable wont work with it either.

With the logic analyzer i was able to compare the output of the CH340 and the factory cable and the signals are (inverted or non inverted) to what they need to be.
Anubus's board should be able to be tapped (as he has a signal inverter as part of the board...i think) but i have not had the time to investigate.

The other thing i was working on is doing away with the USB to RS232 cable completely

and just use a USB to RS485 cable (tapping into Anubus's orange adapter somewhere).

Its on the back burner. Healthier living is my focus at the moment.

I guess another USB-RS232 cable could solve it, seen the problems you had with other interfaces.

Thanks a lot for the quick replies, I will have to do some shopping.

This sounds complex. Its not. I just added a lot of the obvious in great detail so no errors.
Theres 2 programs. The stock version 5 one. And the cracked version 5 one (zipped up after install).

If you have anything installed now, all versions, inc the dongle driver etc uninstall it first.
Restart.

1. Then INSTALL the version 5 software from the 1st link.
Dont start the program or run anything.

2. Download the cracked version in 2nd part - its a bunch of files inside a zipped file... (winzip).
Open the place you installed the software in 1. above. It contains the 'program files'. This is where you installed the program to. By default it will install in C:\Wizard5\
Mine is in: C:\users\(burgerman)\Program Files (x86)\ ...
OPEN that folder. You will see a bunch of folders and files.
Open the zip.
These files look exactly the same as that bunch of folders and files in the downloaded zipped folder (once you open the zip).

Now, copy the whole bunch of cracked folders and files from the zip, to the Wizard5 folder, straight over the top. If it asks if you are sure you want to overwrite, yes you do, just do it! Now its cracked, no dongle ever required for all levels.

You then may need to right click the .exe file, or the shortcut, and choose to run in compatibility mode for windows XP service pack 3. Some tell me. Mine just works fine anyway in win7 and in win10. I just re-did all this on my laptop to test it. Experiment if it behaves odd or crashes.

******************************************************

Now it will run in any of its 4 possible access levels.
Lite, thats USER...
Standard, thats DEALER.
Advanced, is OEM.
Service is better than OEM, and allows you full access to the interesting stuff that you need... (For e.g. turn acceleration scaler).

***********************************

See screenshot.
Shows the ZIP file opened, as well as the 4 levels in the program.
I now have this on 3 computers. Works fine on every one.
