Wow and thank you for such a clear diagram. Since viewing this thread I have just ordered all the bits to make my own cable to re-program the S drive and maybe the solo drive if all goes to plan.

I see vik is having problems with a 200 amp controller hope I will not have the same issue. I will repost if I have successfully programmed mine

I just need the relative software if anyone can advise me. does the same software do both controllers?

Big thanks to woody and ntl99 for all the information provided

Vik wrote:Hi All,

Finally managed to get the 14.6.0 software talking to my S-drive 200Amp controller! using the Serial converter module I posted in a link above and mods as per above posts.
I did this by removing the 33k(47k) resistor altogether.
The process I used is as follows:
1 - Without anything connected to the 4-pin Molex plug on the controller, I turned on the controller, and checked the DC voltages available on pins 3 and 4 with a multimeter
2 - confirmed with a TTL logic probe that there were data pulses on those pins.

My reasoning was that because there is 5 volts supplied by the controller on pin 4 of the molex, when the controller is 'On' then there is no need for further voltage to be supplied via the resistor from the USB of the PC.
NOTE: I have only tried this on the S-drive 200Amp controller.

A huge thanks to Woody and Burgerman for providing this forum and those who share their knowledge and experiences here.

Thanks vik hope it works for my 200amp controller to looks like you may have saved me a lot of time.

The cable worked straight away on windows 10 pro. cheers

Well I have just been able to program my S drive 200amp unit. Thanks to Vik for his input.
Following Viks earlier post I was still unable to get the program to talk to the unit, until i changed the voltage
From 5 volts to 3.5 the comms became active imediatly
Thanks again to everyone :dance

Try wiring up your lead as shown on the far right of this pic....we can try other methods if it doesn't work.

Remembering that the connection convention is RX < TX & TX > RX ...

NOTE:- THE CONTROLLER MUST BE SWITCHED ON FOR PROGRAMMING & YOU MUST TELL THE SOFTWARE THE COM PORT NUMBER ASSIGNED TO YOUR USB LEAD.

Thank You, Woodygb for your help

I have made the cable as in the first posting, with resistor and diode. the cabel is ftdi with 6 stipes.
now I connect to the Sdrive, Port Com2,115200 / 8 /1 but the programm says in the right corner, comms inactiv

FTDI Pic.

Note that I recommend a specific type from the F.T.D.I range.

Why not try direct connection as I suggested in my previous post?

You do not need to faff around with baud rates etc .

HAVE YOU TURNED THE CONTROLLER ON ?

With or without diode?
Direct cable?

Try direct with no diodes.

I tryed all possibilities. 33k, 47k, direct, change tx-rx...
Controller is on, voltage 25,2v.
Possible the head is wrong?
Or the software, I dont no
Comms inactiv

Seems that you have tried everything....there has been a few cases where the controllers molex com port has been blown internally.

You could send me your lead so that I could test it.

I am also looking for changing my lead-acid battery with some packs of 18650 batteries, and hoping someone here coud guide me in the direction of a usfull tread for this?

You dont want lithium ion. You need 8S and LiFePO4 large cells. Unless you like the firework / flames etc. Its not as bad with a scooter and outdoors. But for wheelchair use indoors and esp for users that cannot get off the chair without help then its just not worth it!

LiFePO4 offer 3 to 4 times greater cycle life, and do not burn, do not explode.

Leave the positive pin 1 of the programming socket alone.

To turn on the controller connect 24V+ to pin 5 of the 14 pin socket.

You will need the INDUSTRIAL Software to program the Solo.

I have just reread my post and I think that I need to clarify a few things that I said.

DO NOT CONNECT THE 24V PIN OF THE PROGRAMMING SOCKET.

IF you need to program the Solo on the bench rather than in situ ...THEN you can connect 24v to the battery terminals of the SOLO and jump across from the 24v positive battery connection to pin 5 of the 14 pin plug to turn it ON.

Check your messages for the SOLO programmer.
NOT the same board ...but you should be able to see the connections.

I wired it just like in the photo, tried different usb cable, tried shortning the data cables, i have the oem programmer, tried different coms, i have the key on also, not really sure what i am missing here , is it a driver issue? But i dont think because in the device manager everything looks good , should i try a different resistor or something hope you can help me source this out.

Use the industrial software.

Try by connecting direct from TX of the SOLO to RX of the board and from RX of the SOLO to TX of the board and GND TO GND......... No diode or resistor.

You might possibly have a fake FTDI Chip on the board.
