I was talking to my brother today and he found it hard to believe that no one made a tubeless tire in the size we need for the front end of our powerchairs.

He not alone! And even when they do, powerchair makers choose solid or tubes!

Mind you they also use lead batteries at least adecade after the rest of the world stopped, brushed motors, too low voltage, and manage to make a chair with seating options weigh 190kg... And also take 16 hours to charge, that you cant steer or program without being a criminal or a good liar.

My Quickie dealer will not come back out and fix my two front flat tires as they told me the rep had warned me that all the small pneumatic tires would leak. So I will have to "take care of it yourself"

They charged Medicaid 17 K dollars for a chair with a base price of 5K, and then provide zero service.

More worthless friggin criminals who don't give a rats ass about anything but corporate profits.

I learned that lesson about the DME vendors 17 years ago when I met the disability world. I fund all my needs out of pocket so I can have the satisfaction of them not making any money off of me. I figure what it would cost me in co-pays and aggravation, I'm way ahead.

I just decided that relying on anyone but myself was a waste of time. Because relying on the expets leaves you with a trail of death and destruction, inadequate service, setup, configuration, parts, and normally a massive wait for them to turn up with the wrong part.

MUCH better to be IN CONTROL!

Alot of users cant relay on themselves - for many reasons - for the ones who can - thats great - do what you can - less stress - for the dealer who wont come out to fix a flat tire on a chair that was ordered with tube tires -

i would either change dealer - but would also complain to there CEO - or who eve will listen - go a search find it - i have done that before and got a call the next day - all i wanted was a status update on my new chair - nothing else

and you can call and let your insurance know also - i have had one person who received a chair which wasnt as ordered - etc, didnt work for her in her home - refuse it - call insurance and it got replaced very fast with a new one that worked for her in her home -

first chair was too high and didnt fit under her table - it was suppose to be a replica of her old chair - same height etc, - which was promised it would be - it wasnt - you have to be heard and do something about it -

in my case - i went to tubes myself - so its all on me - and i accept that - well worth it if you ask me - have a few spare rims - casters , tires and tubes on hand - - make it as simple as you can for yourself - what ever you can do - do it

if you cant - bring it to a bike shop to do for you - try adding a little bit of slime - cant hurt - i just check my PSI every now and then and fill it up - so far so good - cant complain - just yet anyway

I know this wont be popular. But most people are just dumb. And most dont care. And in the mobility industry you seem to get a lot of these! And they think they are experts, but dont even know how to listen. They get the first part of a sentence and then presume they know all the rest...

So you either take charge, or suffer.

Most power chair users just wants something that's comfortable to sit in and gets them from A to B. They're not interested in how everything works, they just leave it to the "techs" to deal with any problems. Unfortunately they are the ones who are worst off because they lack any motivation to learn how to guide an able bodied to help repair their chair quicker, and quite a few don't have a backup chair they can use.

Last summer, typical example.

I managed to pour water into a knakered old joystick in my garden while watering plants. Stuck, wouldt turn on. So what to do. Call the experts? Its god day, So cant do that till next day, and they will be busy or bewildered anyway. I am in the garden, and alone... Cant get out, walk, or move. So instead called my ex gf, who went in the house and got me
a) an allen key. (stored in my chair back)
b) the control pod from a spare chair... Using said allen key.

Ten mins later I had swapped control pods over, and was in the house drying the wet one in a box of breakfast cereals...
And back in action. How would that have worked out if I had to call the experts?

Same with punctures, or a bad connection and flashing lights... You have to have spares, backup chairs, knowledge. Or you are screwed and reliant on others that usually know nothing and dont care.

i am using 280-250-4 tires now - i am not sure the 300-4 tire will clear my motors - i tried this size on my other chair and didnt work - too large to clear my foot rests - but cleared the motors fine -

this chair will clear foot rests but closer to motor so i cant be sure unless i actually try them - i can order a pair here first to try if they fit - i can return mines here if they dont -

if they fit - then i can get a few pairs from you ? i am in NYC - Manhattan -

i was going to wait till the winter - to try this out before i commit - but if i have to do it sooner - i can also -

chair is 646se

I called Sunrise Medical in California and spent 30 minutes complaining to the customer service rep about the flat tires, too far forward seat position, chair not turning in the lowest speed setting, slow turn acceleration. I looked in the warranty information and saw where they don't cover anything with pneumatic tires. With the motors ,gearbox, and electronics only being covered for the first year, they pretty much get out of having to do anything.

all the manufactors are the same in that reguard - not sure what the others give in warranty - but at most maybe 18 months -

if you need your settings adjusted - and dont have the tools to do it - the vendor has to do it for you - at best they can -

only bounder chairs - has a 5 years on motors - and even then - you have to read what that covers - life on the frame - no one will cover tires, tubes - batteries - maybe 6 months on batteries if your lucky - if the vendor wants to replace them then - or if insurance covers - the manufactor wont for sure one way or another

its fustrating for sure - -

They cant warranty parts like chains, belts, tyres, batteries, and even motors really. These are all natural wear parts.

Tyres wear fast if you use them. Thers little a banufacturer can do about that.
Batteries can only offer 400 to 500 cycles IN A LAB in perfect contrlled conditions and not in a chair bounced about, with a crap charger and inadequate charge time. Thats a year.
Motors, gears, belts, chains, all deteriorate if used hard. Rubber parts perish, brushes wear and shed abrasive carbon, magets lose strength, gearsdevelop wear and backlash, noise etc, brake deteriorates throughvwear, so I swap them after 2 years before they fail. And while still relatively efficient, before they let me down.

I want to proceed with getting wider casters to accommodate the 3.00-4 tires John uses, but cannot find any, so I'm not going to buy the tires and wheels until I find some. The ones on EBay got sold quickly.

Its not so much that I use them. But many/most outdoor/indoor chairs do in the EU/UK. Maybe because the fixation on mid drives never really happened here. Rear drive is probably still the majority, and so more rear drive options.

dont you have the Sunrise Quickie 646 chair ? if you do - they have larger fixed forks - says 9 x3 - those rims - come with the 280-250-4 tires -

they fit the 300-4 tires - and it fits on the forks on the chair - - i have done that already - but in my case - i tired it on P222se i have and it didnt clear my foot rests - so i removed them and returned the tires

now on the 646 i have now - its going to clear the footrests - not sure if it will clear my motors - i will try it again -

but they will fit on the rims and the larger fixed forks for the Quickie chair - not sure how your chair is set up - foot rests etc,

if you want to wait - i am going to try it again and can show some pictures here - but wont be for a while - this winter i do have some pictures here somwhere with the tire on the rim and fork - it fits just right - too bad i couldnt use them then -

No, I have the S636 which has the narrow fork casters which are only 2.6 inches internal width with the stock 2.00x50 gray tires on it, so there's no way a 3 inch wide tire will fit.

they wont - but you need to get the larger forks - rims and then the tires - you can find the forks on Ebay most times - you can reuse the same bolts etc,

but you need the larger rim- can try ebay also - i have extra suspension forks - but not those that are needed for the larger tire -

The wheel and tire assembly are on EBay weekly -

The forks are nowhere to be found, now that I am ready to buy them.

nice find - i am using the factory rims - - make sure how ever - if the rims will work - i am not good at making things work after the fact -

i dont have any extra forks - just suspension forks with the smaller tire you have already - search even if you have to buy the fork with tires on ebay as one unit which i did and never used the tires just the forks

or worst case - you can get them new from sunrise - i think about 35 each fork -

Heidenau tires that Jonh B posted above look much cooler than this Kenda. I guess their special tread can much reduce the problem of caster shake. £15 is a good price too. I am dreaming to own a pair

forget about ebay then - you can buy them brand new for same price -

https://www.quickie-wheelchairs.com/rep ... 646-s646se

you will need number 14 and15 - at least - you should be able to use the same bolt and washer - then you would need the rim and tire -

but just the fork is 14 and 15 is the longer bolt for it

you can call them - to double check etc, - but your serial number which they may ask you for will show your fixed forks you have now - and most of them get lost if your asking about a part other than what the serial numbers show

ask them to call sunrise to make sure of you -
