Pride Pursuit XL 36V

Postby Scollard » 18 Aug 2016, 21:04

Pride now makes a 36V model of my scooter.

My question to the experts out there; Would the controller and motor be the same? Is this just a faster scooter? And, if so, can I just rewire my Li pack to 12S or 14S and gain the speed?

A scooter is much simpler to control than your chairs. I have a circular pot. to set the speed and then it's just a matter of pulling a lever for forward or backwards. No complicated turn ratios, acceleration settings, etc.

The motor may well be the same. The controller will be different though most likely. If you look at the spec for yours you will likely see a max voltage of 32 to 35V so as to allow for charging/regeneration pulses on a 24v system.

I think the Pursuit replaced the Wrangler model I have. If one must replace the Wrangler motors, you must replace both with the 36V pair. I don't know what it does for speed. My Wrangler has a switch controled low range rated for 5mph & high rated to 10mph. With my worn steering approaching 10 mph is scary.

Different, and different. Pride pursuit uses a transaxle. Pride wrangler uses twin 1500 watt? motors. Pursuit uses an s drive 120 amp controller. Wrangler uses a Curtis 200 amp controller.
There were 2 versions of the Pride wrangler motors, one set was 24volt, I assume the older version, that would break. Have a broken one right now. The newer version, 36 volt, I assume , uses a different more robust gearing system that incorporates a bearing in the gearing or transmission. The older version used a pillow ? block bearing that was separate from the gearing.

Both 24volt or 36 volt Wrangler motors use the same controller.

So getting back to this. How can I make my 24V Pride Pursuit XL go faster.

1) Can the programming be tweaked?
2) Do I just update the controller and rewire my 24V pack to a 36V?
3) Do I have to do both?
4) Not worth the effort.

Motors will work at 36V.
Battery can be reconfigured.

Controller must be one that can cope with and designed for a 12S pack or rather 3 lead acid batteries. A nominal 36V which means it must have a absolute max rating of about 48V
