Storm 4 Xplore retrofit

Postby Irving » 25 Oct 2016, 09:39

I've been offered a good used Xplore that's only a year old with the brushless 600W TTPlus motors but no powered seat options. Assuming its possible to buy the seat items as spares does anyone know if they can be retrofitted - i.e. is the power base common? The control system is DX2 with a type B handset so can handle 4 seat functions when paired with additional controller modules.

And so programmer might be an issue?

I am very tempted to buy a new one of these to experiment with. I like brushless, (quiet, efficient, no backlash, and gain some range all at the same time).
But 2 things stop me:

1. lack of a sensible (priced) source... (I can get sunrise stuff with 30% + VAT meaning 50% off)
2. what programmer and how to obtain one since its all invacare I have no sources. Without this its useless to me.

So if anyone can help or do me a cheap /new deal?

Because with the seat relocated, and a sensibly sized lithium pack and reprogrammed it would make a good long range outdoor chair, if a little big and unwieldy indoors.
You should be able to increase that (49km claimed) real world 22 to 23 miles brushless range, by 3x. So about 66 miles.

Its easy to get a deal on a powerchair...
30% off. No VAT.
Less 2x MK, less Invacares lead charger. So then about 4K.

Hi John,

You can have the same deal from us on the Storm 4 that you get on xxxxxxxxx products namely 30% off. + Vat exemption. Only applies to you if the equipment is for your personal use and not for resale. You take responsibility for ordering the chair from the prescription form that is available on our website or Invacares website. Any alterations you make to the chair could affect the warranty implications of the chair and although you would need to contact us for warranty parts you would be responsible for warranty repairs. The final price does not include delivery (location dependent) or set up.
If you complete a prescription form with all the options that you want on the chair we will gladly quote you the final price. Please include delivery address.
Here is a link to the Storm 4 xplore prescription form. You need to decide on standard or recaro seating.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Tilt-in-space, backrest recline, possibly seat lift (mainly because it gives a lower seating position than a fixed seat)

So how hard to get hold of a DX2 dongle that allows the programming of the brushless x-plore chair?

This is critical! Where from?

Because I have several rather good quotes at about 30 and 35 percent off, no vat either. I am going to buy and modify and lithiumise a x-plore chair! I suspect a real world 70 miles will be possible.

I think its the best chair currently on the market, once the seating is moved rearwards a bit, and a few other mods made. And the price is right.

Feedback I have is:
"Hi. Your programmer should work but you would need the correct attachment for this handset, which is coloured orange"

Other question: Its fitted with a remote type B on a fixed arm. Can I swap this with my G90 on a swing-away? Do the remotes store the config or can i move the G90 between chairs at will?

Yes, the remotes store the configuration BUT Dynamic has a fairly complex system of backup copies and automatic and non-automatic updates. I never had to use them, and they have evolved over time so different modules have different backup capabilities, but you should read the manuals about this. Of course, you should also use the Wizard to make a backup copy of current settings on a PC.

That refers to the Remote type A and B - the chair I'm considering has a type B fitted on a fixed bracket. I'd prefer my G90 on its swingaway but transferring that between chairs looks like its not going to fly without reprogramming/reloading.

Is that a parallel port dongle or a USB one? Finding a laptop with a PP is hard these days.

No reason you can't fit the g90 that I can think of. Orange dwiz adapt is required on rem a and b as well as the rem550

Which back do I want?
There seems to be loads... I want to sit as far rearwards as possible. Don't need fancy backs as they all seem to mean you end up further forwards. Anyone know? Never had anything to do with invacare stuff.

My personal choice would be sling back if it's still available.

Looking at prescription form then you only have modulite to pick from.

Is it 'deep'? The problem is need top see all this stuff before ordering blind!

Probably wont be staying anyway... Sling back is fine. But not on the prescription sheet. So modulate is closest? Will use my jay2 cushion or my home made one.

What is all this modulate/flexisomething business...

The other reason I want this big bulky chair is for the lift to wash my van occasionally. Its likely going to be used once a week.

Tension adjustable upholstery is the sling back. matrix backs are equivalent to the Jay backs so not what you're after.
