I've got questions about my PL8 and its power supply.
1. Why did it once stop charging my AGMs after 2 minutes and refuse to do any absorption at all, never mind for 8 hours?
I was charging a 20Ah battery using the AGM XLR preset I got somewhere on the board. I changed it to charge at 5A and terminate at 20mA. The batteries' previous charge was done with my best-of-a-bad-lot mobility charger, and I put them on the Pl8 before using them.
2. If I charge at a higher current eg 8A is that bad for the batteries?
I have a sort of feeling (ie my neighbour advised me ) that you can only charge lead at roughly a tenth of the capacity. So even 5A makes me feel a bit daring.
3. I got a very long story about my PL8 with no power switch, the PSU and some sparks... Never mind, it all works ok when I do what is expedient. Which is simpler than Expresso's solution, but I just have to hope it's not stressing the machines.
4. Why do power supplies have a current setting? I'd have thought the PL8 just draws whatever amps it needs. My PSU doesn't and if I was using a battery it wouldn't. I'm confused.

I'm using the new power supply I got from Steve and it is all working great - next job to fit the anderson connector but in the meantime I set it up at 30v and 20A just because I was using the banana plugs but when I go into the PL8 supply tab it will only let me set at 28v - it doesn't go any higher on the drop down menu so to play safe I dropped the supply voltage down to 28v to match.
Is this what I should be doing?
The internal screw terminals that I will connect the anderson to I presume are OK for 40A and nothing needs to be changed there?
So pleased to be able to put 15AH back into the chair in less than an hour - this is a life changer
Thanks folks for all the help and advice and of course to Shirley and Steve for the power supply (and for the other one when it eventually arrives from HK)
Ricky
Be sure its not set to: "Reaches Charge Voltage"...
And is set to: "Manual Current Setting" in the termination tab.
