Screw in nipple? For leg bag emptier.

Postby funkykeyboard » 30 Sep 2017, 13:19

I got 1 of these from eBay,
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12V-DC-1-4-2- ... Ciid%253A1
and in that whole I want to screw in a nipple that you can plug a tube onto. What are they called so I can do a search on eBay please?

Done this before, but improved it now. When I have all the parts list down pat, I will do a description on here how to create this. Because, all the ones I have seen our 200 or £300 et cetera, and off the top of my head this should be no more than 30 quid.

Any advice appreciated, Tremulous Tetra. :-)

The first one was the correct 1/4 npt on the link above.
You need the correct tube size too. So probably 6mm or 1/4?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hose-Barb-fit ... Swr41XIJ~9

If you look around these are available in nylon, abs, etc too. More suitable for urine...

If you look for 1/4npt to fuel or oil hose you will find lots of choice, some from the US, for example:

Remember that urine isn't just water - make sure the valve material is compatible with it and not going to get corroded... (I'd be more inclined to look for something in either stainless steel or plastic, as aluminum tends to corrode pretty easily...

Also keep in mind the need to be careful about infection prevention / control, you don't want the valve to become a reservoir for bacteria that could travel back up the system and give you a UTI...

Presumably you'd want to be able to flush the system out periodically with bleach if nothing else - and I know bleach and aluminum don't get along well, at least they don't in the world of swimming pools...

Good job on that solenoid operated opener. I can manage manually emptying my leg bag by the flip valve. Here's the bag I use:

https://www.vitalitymedical.com/hollist ... gJuufD_BwE

I wear the bag on my upper thigh with a length of 3/8" flexible tubing connected to the flip valve. The tubing runs down to my footplate. I can open/close the valve thru my pants.

Since I am constantly forgetting to drain urinal how about a bluetooth connection to a GPS app on my cell phone that opens the pinch valve when I am in the field out back. :geek: If you make it and get it approved for Medicare you could charge $950. czy

OK... Connect sensor to one of those dog collars that gives the dog a shock to control it.

Wire sensor to the button on the remote controller, and leave it fixed under the chair.

Put it on your wife as a reminder. She will then tell you when the leg bags full without fail.

As I can see, model of my pinch valve is Bio-Chem 100P2NO24-06S 24 VDC, 1/4” I.D., 3/8” O.D.

I've found my on ebay. It's important to find 1/4” I.D., 3/8” O.D. which is I think the biggest bio-chem valve. Because of orifice flow.

I've found some pdf http://www.westernanalytical.com/pdf/POWER%20Valve%2002-11-08.pdf so you can see the sizes of the valves. I dont't know can it be ordered from their site.

for example here is one, but listing has ended.

Looks like back to plan a/1 LOL

I thought I had found the distributor, apparently not. Pinch solenoid seem to be expensive, though they are the most hygienic. For most people price is going to be an issue. So these look like a good compromise.

Thanks for everybody's advice so far, listened and learned.

Good price on those valves and 24 volt too. I wonder if the coil would heat up at that voltage.
Might want to keep away from skin. Then there's the gunk that would surely build up
possibly causing leakage. Not an issue with the pinch valve.

I appreciate the input. To counter what you're saying, at that kind of price, they are throwaway. Use 1 as long as it works and throwaway.

My major concern is COST. So anybody can afford it. I'd afford to work throwaway that part.

My major concern with this methodology is what people have said about infection. What I used to do was flush it through every night with a bag of water. However from what people have said, probably better off with bleach. Realise this is a chore for your PA if you have one. But I can't see any work that way round (besides the pinch mechanism, which so far seems to be a fortune i.e. £174).

oh yes, I got a 12 V version, because they are 12 V batteries on wheelchairs. Was that a mistake for some reason?

Two 12V batteries in series = one 24V battery. But I think you can still run it of just one battery.

Not without damaging both every time you recharge. You really need 24v.

Or one could run it via a 24-12DC-DC converter, which wouldn't be to bad if the current requirement is low...

What voltage is that? How do you power it? Of the wheelchair battery, or stand-alone battery?

I have managed to locate in the UK firm that will supply 1 of these.
Image
Image

It's a bit large. The price is about £70. And you know the Bluetooth controller but also prices about £90.

The one above is better, because it fits to your leg, and if your leg moves it doesn't matter. The one I have is too big to be fitted to the leg, and so would have to be fitted to the chair. If your leg moved too far, it may pull the tube out, and leave a leg bag to drain all over the floor. Problem.
However, it would make it easier to power supply it from the chair. Plus.

No idea how the other one the other fella had its powered.
