4x4 electric wheelchair

Postby Maclehose » 24 Feb 2018, 02:17

I had a try of the Terrain Hopper https://www.terrainhopper.com
Which has 4 independent motors.
Set me thinking,
I've googled controllers and can only find 3 channel...... Can you get 4? Cant see 2x2 working....
I assume it must use brushless motors with hall sensor to allow relative reduction in motor speed when turning since it doesn't use a differential.
Could anyone enlighten me?
Many thanks.

Terrain hopper is a buggy or scooter. Its not a wheelchair. It just uses parallel wired geared brushed motors the last time I looked with R-net controller. Which works but isnt really adequate.

Thanks,
Possibly over thinking things, on a tight turn wouldn't the front motor need to turn a lot more slowly than the rear?
Or is that what you mean by not being ideal?

Slightly more slowly. Doesent matter, they will do that anyway. And waste some power.

It uses stock electronic tank steer algorythm as used on a powerchair.

By not ideal I meant regarding motor compensation settings when theres 2 motors and one slips while the other needs extra power via motor load compensation. But we better not go there yet.
