I fitted two .18A 25mm thick fans in the fancy case, replacing the noisy .27A 15mm thick ones it came with. There's plenty of space for the thicker fan in the rear and just enough in the front. That should tamper the noise. :fencing

Finally got the nice case fitted etc. I got into the service menu, entered the code, and went to section 8 to set the over current and over voltage protection to 50A and 30V.

But the max values its letting me set for those is 3.0V and 3.0A. :fencing

Postby LROBBINS » 06 Jul 2018, 11:12

Arrived a few minutes ago. One month exactly from payment till arrival and only 7 days from when it was shipped - that is very fast. I am up to my eyeballs, as usual, in too many projects, so all I've done is power it up and saw that the display comes live and the (indeed noisy) fans run, then put it back in the box and on the shelf. BTW, to my eyes the stock rack mount case is not all that ugly, though I did buy the fancy case and will eventually move it over and add an Anderson.

Customs, or the post office, as often happens ignored the reduced-VAT document and charged the full 22% but only on a declared value of USD150, so even with a E7.90 postal service charge it was all of E25.80 to pay on delivery. Total price remains very, very reasonable for a 3000 Watt bench supply/charger. Do I owe you anything to cover the PayPal fee?

Thanks,
Lenny

Thats EXACTLY what they do with anything from the US delivered to the UK. All the correct paperwork, and declarations, and they charge VAT regardless. And then the postal service adds another 12 to 20 pounds to the bill for the privelidge of collecting it from customs. And its one hell of a fight to get them to refund it.

However I never seem to be charged anything from china, hong kong, or australia, etc.

The fans can be significantly quieted. In fact my front one is unplugged. Only the rear one running and its much quieter. Stays cool regardless as long as the restrictive front grill is replaced. Many cheap grills on ebay to keep fingers out that flow well.

I will end up with one 25mm thick rear fan only fitted and a finger guard at the front I suspect.

My error, your writing was so faded (at least on the NCR copy on the package) by the time it got here that I saw the $ as a 1. No wonder the customs fee was only E18 (+ the E9.xx postal service charge).

Its in this thread somewhere. But very little. Its pretty much irrelivant in the scheme of things considering its capability.

You would pay 4 figures for a bench supply that covers this huge voltage and power levels if you could even find one. Remember it can be 0 to 120V or 0 to 60V. And 50Amps max! I doubt you would even find one at any cost.

AND its an adjustable 3 stage charger! Of the like we cant find for gel etc. As a bonus. All rolled into one, for about 10x less than expected. Only downside is that as it comes it sounds like a vaccuum cleaner at night. Its fans go even when unloaded so not only as you plug it into a chair or when loaded.

I got a pair of 25mm thick fans in there. Plenty of room in the back, just enough in the front of the fancy case. To do it I had to lose the shroud that was in the kit to hold that restrictive mesh in place. Though you don't plan on installing a front 25mm thick fan, I suspect there would not be room because of your finger guard, too thick. You might get a 20mm in there if you ever wanted.

You will find that one rear one alone is adequate without the restrictive thing. Esp a 25mm one. Although I have not tried it a 3000 watts! Only at about 30V 30A so far. Right now the noise only bothers me when its down to low cv currents, or floa, because no fan is really needed hen so it should be silent bit its not. So both fans, with the voltage dropper cables will make idle quieter.

Failing that just dont sit it on the chair next to your bed as I do and use a longer cable.
