Know nothing about electronics. It's the front heatsink, where rectifyers attached, gets hot.

It is temperature related, because fans slow down again , when I blow it with a high amp fan.

Because they were never intended originally to be adjustable they have added a artificial load internally - that glass tube, a tungten light bulb, as a resistor. In order to get good regulatory accuracy at low voltages and loads, the power supply also wastes power on purpose via that load. So while YOU may be using under 1 Amp, the supply itself is wasting a few at these low load conditions. So it generates a litte internal extra heat on its heat sinks.

This is the right side originally, with copper pole anchors.

So compared with yours, BM you flipped the core from left to right ?

This is the correct way up. And has the side with few screws at the rear.

This is really all he should need.

NOTE on this image, download/file.php?id=11508&mode=view
the right hand side one, is the one shown on my photo. With the end that is at the top to the rear, and the side towards the cintre of the image at the top of the case.

Study the two carefully. Then you will see. This is the CORRECT way to assemble. In fact may be the only way. I have flipped nothing. Theres now THREE of us that have fitted anderson connectors in the same way.

So , it is flipped over, because copper poles are on one side only.

If you move the Anderson out by the thickness of the back panel the (slightly smaller) cutout will be hidden by the Anderson and only one screw is needed as the back panel locks the connector in place.

Interestingly, theres a lot more room in my case. Because the PCB is mounted on the opposite side of the the case to the anderson.

Maybe theres 2 ways to assemble. And maybe thats why you had trouble with wires to the display / control board?

I had plenty of room for mounting the Anderson, but given my not so neat cutting ability I preferred to have the Anderson hide the cutout.

Fair enough. But what I am getting at is that there must be 2 ways that the case/board can be assembled as mine is like a mirror image of yours. The side with fewer screws is opposite to yours, also has the anderson, and that anderson is on the same side in both cases. (the left looking from the rear. And my board and stand offs are all on the opposite side to the anderson. The right looking from the rear. And that also means no stretched wires to the display/control board. As the internals have to be the other way up!

So you can build a lefty or a righty from the same bits! Not that it makes a difference when assembled.

I have to do the Anderson myself and send the shells back for mod . Shipping doubled. Price of new psu also soared , as stock is getting less and less. We don't accept used PSU , do we ?

Can't absorb all costs .

1, In stock case @HKD $1,270
2, FItted with aluminium case @HKD $1,770
3, Fitted with aluminium case & Anderson SB50 @HKD $1,870

Or backwards. I did it 2 years back!
It was obvious it was needed. The original ugly case, has very substantial connectors on the rear, that allow ring terminals to be used. But the fancy case uses the type of connectors that a low power bench supply has. Those get hot and start melting themselves at 20A. So it needed a high power (High Amp) connector on the rear since it can and does do 50A quite regularly when battery charging at my house. Even with the PL8 it needs 50A.
And most of my stuff already uses Anderson 50 connectors. So it made sense to add one on the rear as I swapped cases. Theres at least 3 others also done this now. It should be a standard modification. The front connectors still get used for measuring, and for low power component testing, electroplating, etc.

My buddy and I added the Anderson to my first shirley psu.(and it works great!) But it took us many hours. We aren't used to this type of work. For you, its old hat.

I am convinced, BM, that your house lacks a master bedroom. Instead, it has an attached machine shop with a bed in it! :ugeek:
