USB supply from your chair?

Postby Tee » 07 Mar 2018, 11:38

Is it ok to connect 1 of these into your power chairs wiring?

If so where is the best place to connect it up to?

Nowhere its 12v.

You need a 24v one connected via a small fuse direct to battery or via a xlr plug to your charge socket.

some power chairs have a 12volt output, if you have a pride/curtis/quantum AAM module in your chair, it has a 12volt output that can be enabled. 12volt at 4 amps.

I have a Storm 4. I haven't checked to see if it has a 12v output anywhere. I will look now though

yeah dont do that, it can cause a unbalanced charge cycle. and stuff making one battery different level of charge from the other.

I won't, thanks for the warning though.

I would like to connect into the joystick, solder onto where the charge port connects to the PCB inside the joystick. Would that give me power only when I power on the joystick on or would it be drawing power all the time? I would prefer to only have power to the USB when I power the controller on. If I can't do that it's no big deal really I suppose. I will check it all with 1 of my meters as I am doing it but if you guys know of the top of your head the advice would be well taken.
I'll drill a wee hole out the bottom of the joystick and grommet the cable so it's not waving in the wind. :joint

Cool, I would have preferred power only when I power the chair on but it's no big deal. I have one of the ones that I plug into the charging port but if I do this it's something less I have to carry/or forget! czy
I know a little bit about electronics, like a tiny bit! I have a couple of decent meters and know how to use them to confirm stuff but It gives me peace of mind asking you guys first. Even a good multi-meter doesn't stop brain farts!
I'll do it at the weekend :joint drunk2
