Average speed and top speed are really two different things . I pointed out long before he set out , that expresso could only do an average of 10kph .

Snaker is definitely a RECORD , that he pushed the stick for 7 hours ''NON-STOPPED ''.

I sneaked into the 2008 marathon here . It was boring , as you were un-accompanied throughout the game .

he sure is on top of his game there -

maybe he should look into the Guinness records etc, - i always wondered how that would work -

would they ride with Snaker and record the whole thing ? he may have a record he can get in the books

Riding in long time is not that hard because our speed is VERY slow therefore our brain does not need to work hard. Unless we have a chance to drive BM3 at 26kph czy

And pushing the stick continuously in 7hrs or more is easy too. The key is that we have to find and locate the joystick pod at the right position. Once we feel comfortable with it, we can push the stick a whole day without feeling tired or hurt.

I'm not sure what the W/C record is for the Boston Marathon, but I know that they start the W/C racers well before the AB types, and the W/C time is MUCH less than the runners. I seem to recall hearing that the race chairs can hit upwards of 30-40mph on some of the downhill stretches, so BM needs to figure out how to do a 100V pack if he wants to roll with the fast crowd cheers

Also worth noting that the top W/C racers are usually the leg amps, they sort of socket into their chairs like the old PlaySkool toddler toy dolls, and have the advantage of saving 30-40 lbs in non-working leg ballast off us SCI types...

i guess i wont be winning any races then - i never though about those manuals - they do go fast and now you mentioned downhills -

i was thinking more along the lines of a wheelchair marathon - power only ? i never factored in the fast manuals and even fast runners -

They only go really fast downhill. Like a bicycle. Uphill is like, oops, whats gone wrong. Also like a bicycle! So on uphills you win. On downhills just make sure you accidentally get in the way a bit :D

These things appear!

But as usual, no supply available!

Also uninsulated. So casing is negative... Causes issues making a pack.

I would still be interested.

IF theres a regular reliable supply of new cells. Would nylon dip every cell. About 5x over to be sure. And seperate with 1mm plastic card, and 3mm on the base. Tape the lot up with duct tape. It will then be safe. These will be low C rate. So a large pack is essential. So you NEED 170Ah. But will work. So then...

From MK 73Ah you get about 40 to 45Ah out. So these will give 3.5 to 4 times as much range.

HOW to order 8?

To insulate you can tape them together temporarily, but add black RTV (bath sealer, silicone rubber) between each cell. Add 4 rubber washers between each as spacers. Leave to set. Sit the whole thing on a 3mm plastic base, and silicone that too as a permanent attachment. Test cells FIRST! You wont get them apart. Build as 2x 12V batteries. And seperate them with a rubber mat.

Then you end up with 2x lead brick replacements.

sounds like alot of prep. after adding all that - it may not fit size wise then ? i would want to be safe so its a must

Yes it will fit exactly!

Width wise, 255, we have 260 as per MK (or more on some chairs) Leaves room for 2mm sheet either side.
Thickness 41, 4 cells is 164. MK is 171mm, so we have 6mm spare. Thats 1.5mm sheet per cell. and /or siliconed.
Height, is much lower so space for a 8mm steel plate below, and a 3m plastic sheet for safety with ease.

It would be possible to fit 4 into an empty grp24 shell... And make a "battery"... Those are available too.

Thats an interesting idea. Are you sure you could get 4 in a shell? With insulation between each one?

UPS air freight to UK :

21 --- 44 kg @ £5.8/kg , plus £55 additional charge for hazardous goods .

So 8S ? Total inc cells? czy

8 x £53 = £424
3.63kg each = 29kg
plus 5kg for packing = 34kg
34 x £5.80 = £197.20
+ £55 hazard
=======================
I think about £680+ Import Duty + VAT + any fees the carrier decides to add

Assuming the shipping charges to US aren't much different than UK, it works out to roughly $920 to your door in USD. That included 8 cells, shipping, and the hazard charge.

thanks - thats a good price if the cells are new and they fit in the same space once packed and wrapped etc, - 170Ah - that would be amazing to fit inside - i wont need a ADD ON then :)

from the looks of things - i will end up having to do any new chair i get - if i even get a chair

BM, do you know where these empty grp24 shells can be purchased? I can think of a couple uses for them.

I used to get all kinds of battery manufacturer spam. Since I sold batteries online. I remember some for empty battery shells, with lids not yet applied. They had 6 internal walls that would need removing. With a dremmel or similar. But no longer have these. So cant easily find now.

1. Does anyone know how durable something which has been 3D printed is? Wondering whether it would be possible to design and print a case with 4 slots the cells would fit in snugly.

2. Completely opposite to that, do the cells get hot in use and would they not really enjoy being fully enclosed? Just concerned as I have broken down before due to overheated electrics.

The only empty shells I have seen were in a classic car magazine designed to hide a new battery in a period looking case to keep the concourse originality fusspots happy. They weren't cheap.

Not unless used at high currents. But it will reduce the C rating a little. Thats one reason the headway cells are higher C rated than prismatics. Metal cases and lots of surface area and airflow gaps.
