R-Net PM issue

Postby steves1977uk » 23 Apr 2018, 12:31

Recently I bought this 120A PM... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Permobil-M30 ... 3459009307 Plugged it into my test bench setup I get 8 flashing LEDs. Even plugging in my programming dongle, it fails to see it's connected. I'm guessing it's locked somehow :?

When the pod is turned on, the horn beeps for about 0.5 seconds and the seating and speed LEDs light up for about 1 second then goes off and then I get 8 flashing LEDs with an unresponsive Joystick. Plugging in my other R-Net PM the whole set up works fine. How can I get the spare PM to recognise the dongle is connected :fencing :hammer

Hmm, that wouldn't surprise me! But I don't see the point in Permobil locking a PM to their chairs. Even if I install the Permobil dealer software, it still doesn't recognise it! :fencing Maybe they have a customised dongle which only works with their PMs. banghead czy

Hi steves1977uk,

I guess it is not because of a Permobil part, rather a faulty unit. Once I had bought a PM120 from ebay.com, and it is working fine. But then I used permobil software and removed all settings and loaded oem generic. Pls try that and it may solve the problem. Cheers :)

@Furio & elryko,

I got the Dealer software from here to test... https://permobilus.com/support/drivers-and-software/ Doesn't work though :thumbdown: :roll:

@BM,

I usually plug the dongle between the cable from the PM and then plug the pod into the dongle, which is the correct way I believe?

Yes. I wonder if he is plugging in without a joystick.

I always get my Carer or a family member to connect the joystick as it won't work without it! :mrgreen: :lol:

Today I got my Brother to help me open the PM, and we found the small PCB on the left de-attached from the main PCB...

However, plugging them back together still flashes 8 LEDs. The mystery continues... :? :hammer :fencing

Detached?

How is it attached?

There are some largish caps on that board and... from the pics .. it looks like it may have broken at that point .

The board at the top plugs onto the bottom of the main PCB (bottom)...

The two boards push together tightly and there doesn't look like there's any visible damage to either one.

Send in for repair, or return to seller as defective.

Think I'll send it in for repair as this would be my best option. I'll e-mail PGDT and see if they have any ideas I can try before I send it to them.

A quick update on this, PGDT have advised me to send the PM to them so they can investigate what the problem is. They also said I should only use the chairs manufacturer parts :? I e-mailed them back and said I build my own chairs and program the PM to suit my needs :)

Why should you be made to do that?

I fitted a set of yamaha rims to my suzuki. And many aftermarket tuning parts like a rajay turbo...

I fitted a V8 from one manufacturer, into a different manufacturers car.

I fitted a different SSD hard disk, IN MY Dell laptop.

Rollex fitted my van with their own computer, and a floor and suspension system designed by them. As well as trim, loom, etc.

Nobody stops you, and in fact will go out of their way to help if they get to supply a part or extra.

Suzuki started fitting forged pistons in their 16V 4 cylindered GS1100 bikes with a billet crank, as stock to help the aftermarket tuning brigade since it helped sell more of THEIR bikes.

When I fitted nitrous to my bikes, the local suzuki dealer fitted me an AFTERMARKET billet clutch basket to cope with the extra power. And a different ignition module with a higher RPM limit at my request. They didnt give me a lecture about doubling the horsepower.

So what makes powerchairs so damned different?

No idea BM, as they're just generic parts supplied to different manufacturers! Beats me why they say stick with the original parts when the original manufacturer doesn't exist anymore!

Got the PM back today, and Curtiss-Wright found a resistor had failed on the PCB, hence no communication with joystick pod or programmer. It cost £135.89 in total, with some spare joystick chin knobs and rubber gator protectors.
