Help with Invacare MK6 power module?

Postby timmmay71 » 15 Jun 2018, 10:46

Hi, I'm in the process picking-out parts for my simple custom build wheelchair and I need some info that I can't seem to find on google. I'm planning on
using either of these two controllers below.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Invacare-GTRAC-PMA90-Control-Module-1167645-w-wiring-7983/273292240085?hash=item3fa17ca4d5:g:WgMAAOSwOVpXa-OV:sc:USPSPriority!91505!US!-1

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Control-Module-DK-PMC28-MK6-90-w-ACC-1136898-Invacare-TDX-SP-Power-Wheelchair/232797931035?epid=1601577529&hash=item3633d6861b:g:tUQAAOSweEFbGZN0

I'm planning on installing two actuators for tilt and elevate and I've read in one of the service manuals that the above control modules can accommodate two actuators on the ACC input (12 pin). But for the life of me I can't find any info online that shows what each of the 12 pin does for these modules. I did find the pin-out description for the MK5 system but I'm not sure if it's the same for the MK6 and G-trac system?

Also, anyone knows how the drive lockout works for the MK6, does it use a sensor like the old MK5 and MKiV? I can't seem to find any in ebay for the MK6.

MK6 requires a seperate control box for each actuator.

I'll suggest this ECU control box . It works as ON/OFF switches that can be controlled via your jojstick. One quadrant for one device. 4 quadrants in AUX3 and AUX4 mean you have 8 switches, which can be programmed as momentary/latched INDIVIDUALLY..

It will be more versatile in diy your own power seat.

You also need the control lead below.

Thank you so much shirley_hkg!

I already have that control cable. I also bought a Multiple Actuator Interface Box (S4WSB) https://www.monsterscooterparts.com/mobility/mobility-brands/invacare/in3graxrwd/invacare-multiple-actuator-box.html from ebay. Will this work also and which would be easier... this or the ECU module you recommended?

What I haven't figured out yet is where exactly do I plug-in the actuators? I'm guessing in the control module's 12-pin ACC port... am I correct?

If I use the ECU module, can I connect 24v lights to it?

Even with S4WSB , you still need individual drive box for each actuator. Also , smart actuator from INVACARE is expensive .

If you are gonna d i y , my ECU seems much better .

This ECU gives you 8 switches to control , any device connected , via the joystick . Switches are momentary /latched programerable .

Ah, I see. S4SWB Ionly works with smart actuator needs separate modules to drive the actuators?

With ECU, I don't need anything else and the ECU box alone and will switch on/off (momentary/latched) any 24v device thru the joystick, is that correct? Will it be
able to handle reversing the actuators polarity though so it could go up or down?

Where do the actuators connect? The power module or the ECU box? All I see on the ECU box is the DB9 and mono-port inputs.

I really appreciate the info you are giving me shirley_hkg and I apologize if some of my questions doesn't make sense. I'm really walking in the dark with this project.

The contactors inside are rated @0.5A only .

YOU drive the actuators / lights through external contactors / relays .

Pretty much building a DIY wheelchair using the MK6 system. What I mean by DIY is building the frame and power seating (tilt/elevate) from scratch.
With my limited knowledge I know it's a tall order but I got plenty of free time.

At first I was thinking of wiring the actuators with double pole double throw switch directly to the batteries but then I realized that it's just so much
better if the actuators are controlled by the joystick.

I was doing some more reading and I came across Integrated Actuator Modules (IAM).. are these the drive boxes you talking about to drive the actuators?
If they are, then I think it would be easier to use these. There's also one called Tilt/Recline Actuator Module (TRAM)... I could wire my elevate actuator
to the Recline input so i'll only use one module instead of two?

ECU ensemble your throw switches .

If you went with the TRCM, MK4/5 will be easier .

This is where I'm lost... let's say I want to install lights, where do I connect the relays? On the ECU? Can you provide some more guidance pls :|

I think I got the actuators figured out. It looks like I need an actuator module for each or a module that can accommodate both actuators.

The reason I choose MK6 is due to the high availability of used parts. Unlike the older MKIV and MK5 in which parts are becoming rare. Although
both of my chairs now are MKIV, I alternate and use them everyday(14hrs/day), I can't complain about its reliability. One of them is 15yrs old
I think.

ECU controls the coil of the relay . 24V / light to in /out of relay .

But where do I connect the coils of the relay? On the ECU module, power module, etc? I wouldn't be surprised if the answer is something really simple

Here is the pin assignment of the D-sub connector that I been using. Hope it is the same for MK6i . :dance
