Hi there Burgerman looking build f55 chair?

Postby daunjan » 26 Jun 2018, 08:11

Hi There,

My name is Richie,

I'm looking to build a wheelchair like yours but live in New Zealand and cant find f55...

Have done some googling closest I can see is Quickie Groove or a newer looks latest design Quickie Jive R2. I am currently using TA IQ MWD Chair been best out of my four chairs. Both the chairs are on ebay auctions. Tried asking for TA IQ RWD frame but they want 20k new no way.

1st: Invacarre Ranger X
2nd: Invacare TDX
3rd Was Quantum 6000.

I can get my hands on some old Storm Series chairs rwd but think hard to clearance height for fat wheels.

Want something compact like yours miss RWD especially doing wheel-stands. A friend has frontier lying around tried before quite bulky for my tight corridor room door setup.

Still have Quantum 6000 which could mod but nothing like BM3.

Fun part is finding these old RWD chairs in NZ most are govt funded so still their property usually disposed or locked away. Could try importing to here from USA bigger market then here.

Any help be awesome.

Cheers Richie.

Groove, salsa, jive are all the same thing. I would use one of those. But it will be hard to fit wide tyres and keep it narrow. For what its worth the f55 frame was 135 uk pounds brand new.

Instead of trying to copy something thats been discontinued for many years, what you really need to do is modify whatever you can get locally. Even front drive frames can be reversed, or in some cases mid drives too. Its all just mind over metal. I used an f55 18 years ago since I was sat in one. Had it been something else then the same things would likely have happened.

Have a look at the frontier chairs.

Salsa (groove) with 120/70-8 tyres...

In case you were wondering, 27.5 wide. The salsa (groove, jive etc) start off pretty narrow at 24.35 or something. So with the wider rims/rubber doesent end up too huge.

Mods: Added 120A power module, newer colour controller, lights obviously, seat relocated rearwards made possible by adding a centre footplate and modding it a bit, and adding 3.5J wide rear rims. Tilt, recline, lift, power centre footplate, 4 pole, and severely reprogrammed and moved controller to correct position, and more such as black paint, and lights moved inboard, So it does as its told and works properly etc.

If they sold them this way, ready to go, they would have a line of people a mile long with deposits. But they simply dont get it. :fencing

There are several build projects... some are copies (with varying degress of success) of BMs personal powerchars. Will (willchair) has scratch built one & starte on a second. There are some that use other chairs for the starting point including one BM has in process.
