Weighng yourself, or your chair

Was in the garage yesterday. Took a picture. You can buy a cheap accurate digital platform weighbridge for just over a hundred pounds. This can weigh 600KG.

The flat square thing is the part you park on. The folding ramp that I just dropped, is on the floor in the way... The white plastic part with all the figures on it is wireless, and hooks on a nail in the wall.

You can weigh a chair, alone. Or you can weigh that chair while you are in it. So you can drive on, and off every day to see your weight. Just deduct the chair.

In the United Kingdom, everything seems very cheap.

Is the digital platform new?

I've been contemplating how to do this with my chair... Do you reckon this would work? Two sets of bathroom scales and a couple of transfer boards. The front and rear of the chair would have to be trolley jacked up in turn and the scale/board arrangement slipped under front and rear wheels. Then just add the two readings?

Yes if they can take the weight of a chair, and a human, and you can get on and not fall off!

When I've finished the latest mod I'm doing, I will give weighing the chair a whirl and report back. I reckon it will weigh under 100kg without rider. Possibly 70-80kg with existing 2x60Ah gel, I'll have to wait and see...

In our hoverboard explorations, it has been a thought that a solution for those that can pop and hold a wheelie is to in effect put a set of pegs across the top of the scale, then hop the chair up onto the pegs, pull a wheelie and read the weight...

Obviously its a combined user and chair, but it's easy enough to get the chair weight and subtract, or even not bother and track the total as 'normal'...

Since most wheelie poppers are going to be using sports manual chairs, it is most unlikely that the added weight would be a problem for standard household scales...

Theres another way.

Take a bathroom scale, and a 30 inch bit of angle iron or similar. Lay it across the scale in the centre.

Take two, 2 meter or 6 feet long lengths of wood -- length not critical -- scaffold planks are ideal) mark the centre with paint or tape at 1 meter or 3 feet in the centre.
Lay them up to the scale resting on the angle iron cross piece. So you have a shallow ramp.

Reverse up until the centre of the caster wheel or drive wheel is in line with the mark in the centre of the plank.
Now drive up forwards until the same wheel centrepoint lines up with that halfway mark.

Add the two readings together. That is the weight. It allows a 25 to 30 stone scale to weigh a powerchair and user up to 50 or 60 stone. Relatively accurately.

I'm going to get my brother to just remove the batteries, then lift up the front of the chair and slide the scale under the chair from the front. That way the flat bottom plate of the battery case will rest on top of the scale and the readout will be on the front and easily read.

I can also take it down to the truck stop on my powerchair carrier and unload it and drive it onto the scales.

If you are trying to lose weight though, its way more convinient to just roll on, read it, roll off daily.
Although it does not actually help you lose anything it is really good at pissing you off. And blaming the battery.

Remembering of course that einsteins E=MC2 means that a fully charged battery will be heavier than a discharged one by about 0.000000001 gram.

A lot of vet's offices have them too for weighing animals.

We went to a medical museum. They had a fitness area. One display was for body fat. It would measure your height and weight and give you some statistics. Nobody was looking so I got on it. Me and my Willchair 2 weighed 400.6 pounds. It said I was grossly obese. Ha! I alone only weigh 135. My chair weighs 264 pounds according to my crane scale at home.
