If I was buying a stock chair, that I couldnt tweak a bit to make it work properly then I too would have to buy a horrid 6 wheel chair.
Why?
Because as they come as stock, ALL rear drive chairs are unusable. They all universally site the user far enough forwards that their heels sit AHEAD of the caster wheels when revered. That leave the user sat way too far ahead of the chair. Whith more that 50% of the chairs total weight sat over the small front casters. And they steer from the rear. So now the motors dont have enough torque to initiate a zero speed turn. Even rolling they struggle. On slippy ground, grass, etc the rear drive wheels dont even have adequate traction. So spin while the front small casters sink into the surface. This makes every one of these chairs unusable. Hence the popularity of mid drive chairs. The people selling or providing them see that they "work" where the rear drives dont even turn, and feel about as long as an oil tanker.
So while a CORRECTLY CONFIGURED rear drive chair, with seating moved back, which only a narrow centre footplate allows (on suitable cairs) is the best option indoors and outdoors. That no longer feels long. Steers with the lightness of a centre drive. And work on all surfaces without the overloaded casters sinking in your lawn, and so steers properly, there are NON that come this way! Not one.
The manufacturers insist on either too narrow caster positioning, or stupid swing away footrests that put your legs in front of the casters, and the seating must then follow suit.
Read this first post here. ALL those points are ESSENTIAL.
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7455&start=600#p122818And you will understand why I did all that fine tuning. So we are left in a position of a crap rear drive chair, a hateful mid drive compromise, of doing some work to help yourself.
