145/70-6

Anyone have 1st hand experience with a tire this size other than 2ply? If you Google this tire size with 4ply or 6ply they show up like letters in the alphabet. Ebay and Amazon is where they show up. One dealer even had a side pic where you could see that the 2 was buffed out and a 6 was stamped that didn't match the ply rate script. Funny that Kenda or Duro or CST or Carlisle only have 2ply. There may be some out there but I doubt it.

If you are selling a dog with 5 legs, the Chinese will sell you one with 6. Those are marketing plies. Go with known brands. How can you do that though. With every Chinese tyre being cloned so often that even the clones are cloned... By experience. Pick one up, and examine its build quality and sidewall stiffness, and general build accuracy. A real 4 ply or 6 ply is pretty solid and heavy/stiff like a modern superbike tyre.

They are out there. I've been using an X5/V6 as my main chair for many years, and I've fried out many tires that size. I have a set of 4ply tires with this tread pattern on one of my sets of rims. The side walls are definitely stiff on these.

Sun-F tires rate these at 6ply. I'm going to try a pair at some point. And see how they compare to the many 2ply tires with that size and tread pattern that I'm familiar with.

Of course the turf tyre style, is actually available in an ALMOST identical size and fits the same rims. Those are called 15 x 6.00 - 6 K shield. As used on the BM3 chair, and those are very much stiffer, strong and very hard wearing. And can if ordered also be puncture resistant with a layer of kevlar fibre woven into the tyre casing. These are OK on the X5. There are many 2, 4 and 6 ply (aircraft) options in this size. https://www.google.com/search?q=15+X+6. ... 18#imgrc=_

See here:

2 ply all terrain 145 compared to the tougher harder wearing 4 ply turf tyre. Both fit the same rim. Once inflated size difference disappears... But they remain 10mm wider overall.

Yes sunf is one I question as to whether they just stamp whatever ply on whatever. I looked at that 6ply link and the tire is shown to weigh 4lbs like all the one 2ply. Would think when going from 2ply to 6ply there would be a ~50% increase in weight.

Would you say they are all the same size or is there any one brand particularly smaller than the others? Looking to narrow the tires with 3.5" width wheels.

You certainly are. Thats an inch too small for 145 tyres. At least. Recommended rim width is 4.5 to 5 inches or they look very odd and pinched. Sounds like you need 4 inch x 6 tyres. Or 100/90 or 120/80 - 6.

these would work https://jetartaviationshop.co.uk/produc ... ose-wheel/

The ones with the tractor tread are squared off and seem to make the chair sit a bit shorter. And the produce a 'glub glub glub' feel if rolling on pavement. And wear VERY fast if you do that a lot. Traction is excellent, however.

Unfortunately, the best tire I've used on my Frontier's is no longer made in 145/70-6. They were AMS Fox A/T's. Best balance of traction, wear, wall stiffness. They may have been 2ply, 4ply, I don't remember. The ply rating seems fungible. But that tire definitely had a stiffer side wall than the stock Cheng-Shin knobbies. Gave the ride a less "baloony" feel.

The Kenda k500 calls for 3.5" for the 13x5-6 and 4.0" for the 15x5.5-6. I got cheng shin 145/70-6 on 4.5" wide wheels now and the sw is straight with no buldge at all. This tire does look smaller than a Kenda 145/70-6 tire.
