Haze Batteries

Postby Martin O Refurbisher » 22 Mar 2011, 23:49

Today, I came across a supply of batteries which are new to me.

Haze electric vehicle AGM are CE marked, UL listed, made in an ISO 9001, 14001 certified factory, in China, I am told.

The 55 is 229 x 138 x 213 mm (LWH) wt 18.6 kg, 20 Ah Capacity = 54Ah, 1 Hr Capacity = 34 Ah, Price £79 each

The 80 is 260 x 168 x 211 mm (LWH) wt 25.5 kg, 20 Ah Capacity = 82Ah, 1 Hr Capacity = 51 Ah, Price £99 each

Expected cycle life = 450 @ 50% DOD.

I have not so far been able to get any information as to internal resistance, but have asked.

Does anyone have any experience of these?

If not, I'll try out a couple.

Best,

Martin

450 cycles at 50 percent means and about a third of that at 80 percent... A decent true deep cycle battery will give 1000+ cycles at 50 percent discharge. These are just glorified leasure batteries. Deep cycle batteries are rated at 80 percent discharge. Which will destroy these batteries. So expect a serious user to get between 3 and 9 months from them.

Have a read of the halfords leisure batteries I tested for fun... They were rated at 450 / 50 percent DOD too...

And resistance will be good (hopefully) as they are not true deep cycle batteries. So will have more but thinner plates.

I wouldnt if I were you because it will come back and bite you.

Even the best highest quality batteries like MK or Sonnenschien (who sold the technology to MK) and Odyssey, Optima etc are the weakest point in any powerchair. So cutting corners here is asking for grief.

Look for 500 cycles at 80 % DOD and the lowest resistance popssible. Good would be 2.5 or less mOhm for a group 24. If its 6 (0.006 ohm) then the battery has double the voltage sage under load. Great for grandma or an indoor small amp 4 mph chair.

I've seen that brand in a couple of UPS installations, but nothing with wheels. Can't comment further, but I agree with Burgerman- if their performance was similar to more expensive batteries, they would probably be more expensive. That logic doesn't stand for all things, but I think that for a commodity technology as old as lead acid batteries it does.

Haze do some real 80 percent discharge deep cycle AGM EV batteries. They work. If you dont mind stopping suddenly and needing rescuing later in life!

See above. Scroll down to the grey batteries. They are Haze. But GOOD haze...

And see the Leisure batteries at the bottom!!!
