Legbag emptier with pinch valve

Postby Letek67 » 23 Apr 2019, 01:20

I wanted to make a Legbag emptier similar to
http://www.wheelchairs.com/legbag2.htm
Which the urine never touches the solenoid. The one I have the link above the solenoid has a manual override with a spring. Also connected to a resistor. When it works it’s great but very costly and connection always get loose and eventually not enough wire left to fix.
It powered 24v with a switch to open and close.
Any help would be appreciated!

No specific parts links, but should be very doable.... The critical part is locating the solenoid valve, - search engines are your friend, also try the major electronics houses like Digikey, Newark, Mouser, etc... Key specs would include voltage and the O.D. size of the tube. After that start looking at size and other information.

The resistor is there basically for current limiting once the solenoid engages....

The Anderson connectors are rated for thousands of cycles if properly attached to the wires, so I'm not sure what you mean about connections loosening, but even so, it should be possible to splice additional wire in if the existing is to short...

I am using a cheap $4 and tiny diaphragm pump. It works perfectly in 2 years.

more of an observation than a thought, I have never noticed a drain in a disabled toilet. Most the wheelers round here use night collection bags. Hidden in bags.

I often use the Bard 500ml leg bag in the stocking with a flip flow, that is in my lap area with an night bag tube running down my leg.

These are the main components which even after you clean the wire to solenoid/coil is too small to solder any new wire too also which burns out all the time is the thermoprotector

Thanks in advance if anyone knows where to get these components or whole solenoid which is ideal

Why not try a diaphragm pump?

I also tried solenoid valves, they did not work. They are too heavy, too big and too SLOW.

Here’s the whole solenoid.
What I like about this design it easy to clean leg bag since it has a manual override where bag can easily be disconnected from solenoid.
Where with my experience using the ones where urine runs through solenoid gets clogged and connectors get corroded fast also leaks when sentiment builds up which is hard for me because I don’t have very many people around who knows how to take apart and clean. Quad C4-C5 Complete

Throw it away and use this Pump which is the same as or similar to the one that Snaker uses ...should you wish to clean it then just run a bag of tap water thru it with a dash of windscreen wash added.

The 1st link is a diaphram pump. When off it will not allow any flow to happen by gravity alone.
The 2nd link is I think a gear pump. And it will...
