F55 Quickie

Postby LittlePhil » 08 Aug 2019, 22:13

Hi
I have recently bought an F55 quickie on eBay and fear it has an underlaying fault.

It works, but it struggles to turn left or right and kind of gets stuck, eventually it’ll suddenly go causing you to loose control as such. Fine outdoors but risky if going through a door or if people are around.

I lifted both wheels and it looks a bit like one wheel has more power than the other.

Has anyone experienced this or know what it might be?

The batteries are new, the brushes look ok.

Thanks
Phil

Does it have 2 pole motors?

When those were first sold, for around 5 years they were all faulty by design...

They were programmed with Motor compensation set to suit a 4 pole motor at 40 or 45. Where it should have been 100 or 110. But were fitted with 2 pole motors. A complete mismatch. And like all chairs with stock programming you cant hit a doorway... Thats because all the high and low speed turn accelerations and decelerations need to be set to 100. You need a B programmer or OEM PC programmer to sort it out. Theres almost free ways to do that.

You can reprogram them, and set the various settings correctly, theres about 9 that you MUST definitely change.

Then it will turn, stop, go accurately and do so when its told. But those 2 pole motors are complete junk and will soon die once configured correctly.

What it really needs is a set of 4 pole motors. As all the later ones were fitted with, complete with proper drive wheels that used a steel hub, stronger gearbox etc. That transforms them.

Does that help?

It helps a lot many thanks.

How does one go about reprogramming?

I’ll try that first if it’s not to compex!

Thank you
Phil

Well its easy if you have a programmer, and impossible without.

I have one, but you can too. If you pm a guy here called woodygb he may make you an adapter cable. Software is available.

OR..

If you feel so inclined ...you can make a lead yourself.

Pilot+ 80A system was fitted to the later models SM, while the earlier ones used the older PG8 system. HTH!
