Burgerman - you're famous!

I was browsing eBay and found this.

"This would make an ideal start for anyone contemplating a modified F55 similar to those of "Burgerman" who has a website and community of similar enthusiastic F55 owner/users."

So it would appear. The only part of that pile of junk worth taking home is the blue frame, and the castor forks. All the rest is junk. But for 20? Cant go wrong!

I'd agree.... Tempted to ask if any of the UK folks would be willing to put in bid for me and ship....

I see the location is shown as "Coventry" - I know it was infamously bombed back in WWII, but not sure just where it is - anyone on here live nearby?

(I have also contacted seller to see if he will deal direct...)

Re: You're famous! - I WON it!

Postby ex-Gooserider » 18 Aug 2019, 23:16

I yielded unto temptation - and I WON!!!! I put in a snipe for up to 75 GBP and I ended up getting it for 20 GBP :dance :dance :clap

Now I need to figure out how to get the bits I need..... I may end up trying to give away the rest....

Any suggestions from the locals about the best / cheapest way to ship largish items from the UK to US??? Slow boat is fine, as I'm not in a hurry...

Anything I should put on any paperwork to minimize the bite from Customs (not sure if there is one...)

Also those of you with F-55 expertise, I could use some help figuring out just exactly I should get shipped...

    Definite WANT
  • Obviously the frame and front casters...
  • Probably the swingarms and shocks.
  • Definitely the seat base and back
  • I know BM doesn't like used motors, but they look like 4-brush motors, and pretty clean, so grab those....

    MAYBE????
  • The wheels are pneumatic, but look like split rims - so probably tube, tires have good tread ??? Possible....
  • What IS that controller???? Programmable??? Is it worth it?
  • Not sure about the bracket sticking up from the front U on the frame?
  • The tray on the bottom of the frame?
  • The big box thing, in the back of the first picture?
  • The tray the controller is sitting in?
  • The other bits and pieces of assorted bracketry and pads, etc - probably wouldn't add much to the cost for shipping, and hard to replace otherwise?

    DON'T WANT - I think
  • Curb climber
  • Swing-aways - though it might not hurt to have them as bracketry / bits

Frame and caster forks if not bent. The rest is junk. Seriously.

Maybe the caster wheels. But I usually toss them and use non corroded eBay ones that have not been abused and that the bearings fit.

If you like weight, (shipping) the basic seat frame and back poles etc. Arms and tops will be all junk. But that frame needs a hacksaw... Maybe rear lights if they are not old type and knackered.

I thought it was sold as "collection only"?

Ex-G, the control system on that F55 is a PG8 setup (pre-Pilot) which requires a 7-pin DIN programmer. I think it'd be best to skip that and upgrade it to a Pilot+ or R-Net, or even a Roboteq setup!

Hey Goose, assuming frame etc is around 1.m X 40cm X 40cm and weighs less than 30kg packaged then the cheapest options from the Parcel2Go price comparison site gives economy delivery around 85GBP collected with inclusive 50GBP compensation. Delivery 5 working days.

If more than 30kg price rockets

Once you go above those sizes you need to use specialist luggage/bike shipping services but it's hard to get an online quote for these without giving too many details. But sea shipping can be as little as a week to 10 days and appears to start at around 80GBP.

Hope that helps.

Frame is pretty light. Like exhaust tubing. Caster forks and wheels are at least as heavy. Actual weight cant say. Stuck on bed. Or I would weigh one. Theres a loose frame in my bedroom upstairs.

Thanks for the ID on the control setup Steve, I agree on giving that a miss... I sort of suspected it was ancient from the size of the box, but wanted to be sure...

Thanks for the shipping info Irving, it doesn't sound to horrible... I'm guessing my best option depending on what the size and weight ends up being might be multiple packages, or the sea service... Speed isn't a major concern as I will need to finish the current Invacare chair first, so it will be a while before I start on the F55 project...

So revised list....
Definite WANT
Obviously the frame and front casters possibly not the wheels?...
Probably the swingarms and shocks.
Definitely the seat base and back
I know BM doesn't like used motors, but they look like 4-brush motors, and pretty clean, so grab those - BM says no, but why other than being used?
(I don't see as a problem) What speed are they likely to be, I thought the F-55 was normally 6.5mph?
Rear light bar if it has one?

MAYBE????
The wheels are pneumatic, but look like split rims - so probably tube, tires have good tread ??? Possible....
Not sure about the bracket sticking up from the front U on the frame?
The tray on the bottom of the frame?
The other bits and pieces of assorted bracketry and pads, etc - probably wouldn't add much to the cost for shipping, and hard to replace otherwise?

PROBABLY NOT
The big box thing, in the back of the first picture?
The tray the controller is sitting in?

DON'T WANT - I think
Curb climber
Swing-aways - though it might not hurt to have them as bracketry / bits
What IS that controller???? Programmable??? Is it worth it? NO!!!!
