pilot plus joystick possible fault?

Postby rickystyx » 24 Sep 2019, 11:55

The F55 I got at the weekend is showing a "charger plugged in fault" - I took the joystick apart and found one of the xlr leads was broken and thought that was the fault but having resoldered it it still shows the same fault. I've cleaned everything up to remove little bits of corrosion around the cable plug in case that was the issue but with the circuit board plug removed I have no shorts showing at all on the sockets etc. Withe the circuit board attached again I have a resistance of 10Kohm between the negative lead and the yellow inhibit lead.
So it isn't the xlr socket and it isn't a fault on the cable between the joystick and the control module.
Does anyone know if the 10Kohm resistance between the neutral lead and the inhibit lead is normal?

I've bought a new control module which may solve the issue when it arrives but I wondered if it might be the joystick itself?

Very grateful for any help with this one - I've never had a joystick apart before

May be programmed for an on board charger. So that without one, you get an inhibit error. They work in the reverse of the usual charger inhibit.

Thanks BM - I'll have a look at that

Agreed w/ BM's suggestion about an on-board charger inhibit setting (or possibly if you removed an existing on-board charger, and didn't fix the wiring to fool the chair into thinking it was still there...)

I have never checked my Pilot pods to see what the resistance is, but 10K sounds reasonable, as the inhibit on the XLR plug works by pulling that pin to ground, and 10K is a fairly common value for a 'pull-up' resistor....

Well I made some progress today I got a new to me controller and a permobile P+ joystick that was supposed to be working.
put the joystick on the original controller and got a bleep as it plugged in then nothing.
changed the controller over and gt the same thing. Not a happy bunny - so went back to the original joystick which after sorting the loose connection on the charging plug then showed a fault on the jystick (7 lights flashing) - checked it on the new controller and it showed the same - so took it to bits to find the horn bleeper wire floating about - so I resoldered it and plugged it in to the new controller and it shows all ok - plug it in to the old controller and it shows as a joystick fault!
Hopefully with the new controller it will now work - at the moment it clicks the brakes off but nothing moves but I haven't looked at the programming yet - at least with all the lights coming on as they should and no faults showing I should be in with a fighting chance?
Do permobile have a different set up in the joystick - it is a pilot plus but it isn't working with either contoller?

It will likely be a programing issue.

Anything is poss with permobil.

We have lift off - it helps not to have it programmed as FWD
I need to find a way around the programme settings though - I don't know if it is the version I am using but there are lots of tings programmed in that I can't adjust on both of my chairs - I thought I had the OEM version of the software but I'm wondering if I don't.
is there any way of telling/ getting a better version? - it is version 14.6.0

I should have said that I'm trying to programme a pilot plus and a vr2 controllers but I can't find any way into an OEM engineering section

Are you using the OEM version of the software or an OEM version of the handheld programmer? The vast majority are just dealer level, and frankly useless.

I'm using software on my laptop but I can't find any mention of OEM or an engineering tab even in the help menu - I'm guessing that there is something I haven't got which means I can't get in to change the OEM restrictions. I'm using the dongle from Woody and as I said it works fine with both the VR2 and the Pilot+ but some things just can't be changed because of OEM settings already on the control units.
How can I get into those to turn the restrictions off please?

In the software which access level do you see at the bottom?

A - Dealer
B - OEM
C - Manufacturing

You'd need level B or C to make the required changes.

It's access level B - so that would be OEM - so how do I get into the bit to turn the restrictions off?

Which restrictions are you trying to turn off?

Do you mean inhibits?
Theres seating and charging inhibits.
And brake fault inhibits (freewheel) etc.

No it's restricting things like acceleration and turn acceleration. the pilot plus wont let me increase either of these past 40 the VR2 won't let me increase accelleration past 35 - I can cope with the VR2 as it is, but the pilot plus on the f55 at the moment leaves an imense amount of delay on the steering which I really don't like - I'm used to flying model helicopters with immediate response and finding your joystick responds a few seconds too late in your chair, means you hit the wall instead of going through the door.
I know you all understand these things but I need to find the way around these settings

I fly 3d helis too.

the pilot plus wont let me increase either of these past 40 the VR2 won't let me increase accelleration past 35 -

Because in ABS settings, there are WALLS set up. Set those to 100.

Set all accellerations, turn, forwards, minimum turn accelerations, and decelerations, to 100. Across the board. Set forward and reverse decelerations to something very low.

my problem is I can't see any ABS settings or walls - how can I get in to them?
I have Speed settings, operation settings, battery settings, inhibit settigs, general settings and motor settings but nothing else.

So when I turn things up to 100 the programme says it is restricted and turns them down again
