I thought you meant by this that they were tubeless, so why

Sorry I'm confused (again  )

If they are tubeless and not split rims it will be a hell of a job to get tyres on and off won't it?

You need a small tyre machine like my local motorcycle shop. Or its impossible. Anyway some split rims, such as fitted to my van, my old GSXR1100 Drag bike, and the rear wheels of my BM2/3 are tubeless split rims by design. So its quite possible. But needs work...

Have you checked a few for runout in both lateral and radial planes???? They look like stamped steel with possibly a pressed / welded hub - I purchased some caster wheels through Shirley and found that they had so much runout that they weren't usable as the runout was so bad it wasn't possible to put them in a caster fork w/o the tire hitting on BOTH sides depending on where in the rotation it was....

Hi Shirley,

I'd like to buy two of those 3.50-4 caster wheels & tires if they don't have that runout problem Goose reported for the others. I'll also eventually be wanting some 8" tubeless rims (preferably 3.75 inch width, but 3.5 would be OK). I know that you've posted links to such, but a little search time yesterday just led me in circles, so could you post that again?

Ciao,
Lenny

Only 2.75 or 3.5 are available.

Got this pair yesterday , for a member in NZ.

Looks pretty cool. Far better than 3.00-8.

Shirley,

Do put me down for a pair of the 3.50-8 rims and a pair of the 3.50 -4 caster rims & tires, If the 3.50-8 come with tires, that would be good, though I'll eventually replace them with Carlisle Turf Saver 4.80 - 8 that are a bit larger diameter (16.5") and fatter (4.8").

For what its worth, I use the 8x 3.5 rims above for the 120/70 - 8 tyres on the salsa. (5 inches wide, tubeless). Those are proper scooter low profile tyres, and better construction than most 3.50x8 tyres. And a better match to the chair/rim? A little larger diameter than stock (not much), and 2 inches wider.

Compared to stock 3.00 x 8 grey rubbish! Those make it look like a pram in comparison. More importantly they are overloaded as stock, and use a fragile tube. So they had to go.

Doing this on a stock chair increases width by almost 2 inches each side. 1.5 if you reduce gap between motor and tyre. So 3 inches wider than stock. It ends up 27.5 wide, same as the V6 or V4 magic mobility chairs. Indoors, thats a big change.

I done the conversion to 120/70. Duro on my spare groove but i am measuring over 28 inches closer to 28.5 and mine are almost touching the swinging arm on the groove. I am not bothered by it as chair is used primarily for outdoors and only occasionally then.

The salsa is 24.5 stock on its spec sheet. Add 3 = 27.5. Maybe the groove starts off wider.

Lenny , tyres and rims can be purchased seperately.

YES. Tubeless !
Here they are, and tyre's sidewalk offset rim's mounting face ; @ 20psi .

Shirley, as these will be going on a built-from-scratch chair that I've just started on might as well have the tires as well. I'll change them out later when, if, this new chair works out OK.

What are you using for its frame/motors?

For what its worth I used a set of those tyres in the early days. They are not too strong construction wise, and pick up a lot of stones and dirt. And wear quite fast. They came free on the cheap steel trailer wheels I bought for the robotic 4x4 base I built. Not a great choice. Usable though till you fit something else.

I built this 4x4 to see if it was practical for a chair. Its not!
With 100A controller, it will not turn in place with a human sat in top.
Without a human sat on it, it turns fine. Indoors it rips up carpets. Outdoors it tears up the tyres rather fast! Its just not a practical platform or do-able with a human sat on top. Just no use...

Theres a pic.
And a MOVIE here. Listen to the tyres! Click the link below the picture!

What I'm going to try is a semi-monocoque construction in 6068. I sent out several requests for quotations yesterday for motors - so what I'll use will largely depend on what's available. Right-angle, brushless IF I can get motors with both angle sensor for sinusoidal commutation & brake - but the brake has to have a manual release if the gearcase doesn't have a clutch. Otherwise, 4 pole brushed. There is a Taiwanese mfr. that has brushless with the same gearcase as the Linix, but I don't know if they can add an encoder or sin/cos sensor or resolver or absolute angle sensor. This is all going to be a very slow process. I've already ordered some Al to get started. Still have to shop for LiFePO4 cells - the design has about the same space as 2 Odyssey P1500 (a bit more) so I should be able to put in a fair AHr (and use them in Rachi's current chair if this project comes a cropper).

For me, the largest and fattest available. Currently using 9x3.60 - 4 smooth, nominally 9 but in reality closer to 10, but I rather doubt you'll find that.

Here are the depths to centre plate, which is 8.763mm thick itself.

Metre rule is on the rims only , no tyre wall.
Overall width of rim : add all 3 figures.

This is a 3.50-8 wheel on 2.75" rim.
