PSU built from two server psu's and a 3D printer

Postby stevelawiw » 08 Apr 2020, 21:58

This is my 24v PSU for use with a PL8 to charge my chair. I've used the server PSU's for years but never invested the time to finish one off like this

I couldn't find a handle to buy the right size so I printed my own.

One kettle plug is much nicer than two

Two 80x25mm fans for cooling are much quieter than the original four 40x25mm units

Yes it's a bit rough! but it was the very first thing I printed. It shows the two leds confirming that both 12v server psus are working, and of course the anderson to connect to the PL8

V nice Steve.

Its great being able to fabricate stuff like that.

I've been looking at the various groups 3D printing 'PPE', to see where best to offer my services. But most don't seem to realise that what they can print isn't necessarily safe to use. Wrong materials, designs that are dirt/virus traps, etc. etc.

I printed 10 visor frames for a local bloke who is making them for our Island hospital, it took 90mins per frame but it made me feel like I was doing my bit, more than going out to clap on a Thursday night.

I saw on one of those sites someone has printed a coffee cup! I wouldn't fancy drinking out of that
