RNet Cable End for Charging?

Postby Rye » 07 Jul 2020, 03:16

There is no charging port on the Rnet CJA. It has 3 buttons and a joystick. Can the XLR be removed from the charging cable and replaced with an RNet style end for charging? I would unplug the Joystick and plug in the charger. I wasn't sure if the joystick participated in regulating the charge.

No. It doesn't.

Simply connect an XLR cable to the battery terminals. :dance

What kind of connector is the OBC port on the power module?

There are 3x male blade terminals. Pos, neg and inhibit. You'll need these

Insulated one's also fit if you prefer.

Note that if you just connect an XLR plug across the batteries you won't have an inhibit to keep you from driving away while plugged in...

Ditto with using the OBC port on the controller if you opt not to wire the inhibit....

Another potential 'gotcha' which might or might not be an issue on R-Net (it was w/ Pilot) is that the inhibits worked opposite ways with an on-board charger vs. a remote charger. I don't know if the OBC port on the R-Net module would have a similar issue or not. If it does, you may need to either look at the inhibit settings in the programming, or do some wiring changes in how the charger activates the inhibit...

Whilst thats perfectly true, as long as you know that, and have a decent memory, its not really a problem. All of my chairs are that way for the last 22 years. I have done it once. Drove away while connected to the charger. It bounced the charger onto the floor and uluckily it ripped a small transformer off the circuit board. So RIP... But shit happens!

I cured that by always sitting the charger on the seat. So I cannot forget.

I guess no inhibits would be necessary if I install an Rnet connector charger side and unplug my joystick to plug in the charger. Also, it would be less wiring to the batteries by going through an existing cable.

You could. But those connectors probably dont like continual reconnection.
