BUILDING MY OWN BM3

Postby zillyg21 » 04 Jul 2016, 08:48

Hi I discovered this site about 1 month ago and am very interested in the BM3 powerchair. Someone else will build it for me but as the user I need to source all the parts. I have sourced the power chair, but there are a couple of things missing but don't think these were parts used in the construction of BM3. These are a right side motor, no footrests or charger. Could you confirm if the missing parts are necessary. Also I can see that the information provided is comprehensive, but I am having a problem following the parts needed for construction. It's probably cos I'm a girl! Do you have a comprehensive list (including those manufactured) that you could send onto me. I have someone on board for any manufacturing of parts, including stainless steel, so patterns would be appreciated as well. SORRY IF THIS IS A BIG ASK BUT ANY INFO GRATEFULLY RECEIVED. THANKS. :D

I don't believe there's a comprehensive list of all the parts the BM3 chair uses as John (BM) source most of his parts from places like ebay etc..., or he gets stuff made for him. Take a look at this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=5380 This is the BM2 that BM is currently rebuilding.

Hope this helps,

Steve

And you will. I never intended it to be copied. No drawings or anything and no list of parts. And by it, I mean my many different chairs that all change or get updated over time. Because even I have no idea where I acquired most of the bits. I work in metal, whatever is on my bench, and do things differently as I go along. The BM3 chair is experimental, still a work in progress. Especially the control system. Trust me that's not plug and play!

Take a look here and see if you think you can do this: http://www.wheelchairdriver.com/BM3-construction/

MOST of it has little to do with the F55. And the parts that do are all modified. Even though it may not appear so initially. Of your donor chair, only the one bit frame (modified) and caster forks U shaped part (modified) is used. And the seat base and uprights, and rear light (all modified). All of the rest is not from an f55, much is ebay /other and mostly hand made. Whats more it will be way too lively for you as it is, you will need to change it a bit...

I might suggest that you aim a little lower to begin with like convert your chair to LiFePO4 for eg.

OK thanks guys for the info. You're quite right way beyond anything I could do as a newbie. There's a guy on eBay who seems to be building chairs based on BM1/2/3. Anyone had any dealings/know of him. If so is he reputable etc? Again info would be helpful.

He builds loose copies of my chairs, albeit without lithium, roboteq, speed, fast charge, and the like.

If its Martin O then run!

BurgerMan.
If I was to use tomk to build a chair without lithium, roboteq, speed, fast charge, and the like would it then be fairly easy to upgrade to your spec? :?:

Tom is a genuine guy and shows his work on this forum. So I'd trust him more than the cowboy lot in West Sussex. I lost £600 odd to them because I sent a R-Net Power Module and Joystick pod back to them, but they "claimed" they never got it, so I never got the money back. So avoid freedompowerchairs at all costs!!!

Welcome to the forum zilly! :)

And we wont mention years of delivery times. Unbelievably sub standard work. And prices that go up and up... And the used junk you end up with.

Upgrade to my BM3 spec? The chairs metalwork is the simple bit. Only you can know that. Read the roboteq and the lithium pinned threads and then you will know.
