sounds great - but i dont have that SERGI ISO or what ever it is - i am not sure what SERGI IS - is it a Windows ISO ?

believe it or not - sometimes the compilcated way to you - turns out to be the easier way for me to do things - if you can understand that :)

what sounds easy to me is to just connect it and hit clone drive - thats it - its cloned and i replace it - then of course i want to start from scratch and reinstall a new fresh OS from the recovery section - as if its a brand new computer -

then do the updates -etc, when all done - make a clean image with the software and thats it - yes i know its a few steps involved and your way would be the better faster way - thats if your doing - if i am doing it - it will turn out to be the long road - and in the end - i end up doing it my way when it dosnt go as planned anyway -

will check the video and see - SSD arriving tomorrow - looking to do this on thursday - -

where do i get this Sergi software ?

Sergei is a russian guy who builds all these up for free, and has a website. Its not strictly legal of course, as the USB is loaded with all the best programs that cost. But he hosts these files on many places. And links to them from his home page. It helps if you read russian... I dont, but just downloaded the latest one 10 mins ago.

Open it all out into a folder. Then open the folder with the Rufus in it. Thats just a USB maker.

Tell it to make your USB stick bootable, and show it the ISO. If you choose FAT 32, it will work. It will onle take up 2.9gb.

Try these settings. Then tell bios to boot from usb. I know that works, I just did it... Boots old bios/mbr and new fangled stuff equally.

just tried it on the laptop i am using now - and nothing happens - usb is in - reboot - hit F12 and brings me in to make changes

but not much to change or adjust - not many options -

one boot order - only choice i have if i click that is telling me it will turn off UEFI and will affect how it boots etc, - warnings to only change this if you know what it will do etc. etc, - and i dont so i didnt click it :)

my luck it will brink my laptop not making me boot at all -

a laptop with no CD rom - should already be setup to boot from a USB thumb drive - as first item to check and then go into the OS -

this was my problem with my desktop also - i have options there and cant seem to get it right - i change this or that - it seems to have a mind of its own and never booted from the USB either -

reason why i like disks - at least that works for me - if i set the first boot to CD Rom -

i know i need to just set the first boot to USB - then CD ROM and then OS - if i want both options - but cant get it to do that - i tried before - with older systems - before UEFI - it was much easier to make the changes - at least to me - now who knows whats what -

i really never bothered with it since i never needed to use it that way - on my future system i need to make it work that way - wont get internal CD drives - one external Blu ray drive burner -

i hope by then i can figure it out :?

its F2 i need to hit during boot - brings me to many other settings - but now - its not clear what i need to change - cant make this change unless i change the secure boot etc, etc,

so since its not clear to me - i need step by step instructions so i dont mess it up - i am not going to guess - i need my laptop to work -

Turn that off. Its not useful to us.

UEFI Secure Boot (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) is the successor of BIOS (Basic Input Output System) and is used in new 64-bit complete computers with Windows 8 and above.

The standard enabled UEFI runs only signed bootloaders for security reason. Therefore, it is not possible to boot the computer from a CD or USB drive, unless the option is disabled.

Tell it to boot USB first. You need to take charge! Every single PC and laptop can boot from USB since about 2000. Every bios is different. So nobody can tell you how.

Another useless bit of Microsoft "security". Any hacker can add a self-signed certificate, so this is only protecting the computer from ordinary users not from the seriously mal-intentioned. Of course, this, and other similar things (e.g. needing a signed certificate to let a program in Program Files modify its own files) just make a royal PITA for writers of application programs (such as Rachi's communications system). (BTW, the actually useful aspects of UEFI, and there are some, will still be there even if UEFI secure boot is disabled.)

I always disable Secure Boot on my PCs with an UEFI based BIOS as it serves no real usefulness. I create the Sergei bootable USB stick formatted with NTFS using Rufus, always boots, even on an old 2003 Dell Precision M60 laptop.

Also I use this... http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details ... aller.html for uninstalling preloaded crap/bloat in one go, a very useful program for cleaning up OEM branded OS installs.

the bios is not the ususal setup - all options are different - its not as simple as saying boot usb first - dell has here own setup going and i have to find out from Dell if i want to be sure which options to disable or change - or take chances doing it on the blind -

my desktop - thats different - i can change it around also - but i have tried in the past and never got it to work so i left it to book from CD rom at least -
