Can't remember if we've had this before, but this guy speaks a lot of sense - particularly about involving the end user:

How do you build a wheelchair ready to blaze through mud and sand, all for under $200? MIT engineer Amos Winter guides us through the mechanics of an all-terrain wheelchair that's cheap and easy to build -- for true accessibility -- and gives us some lessons he learned along the road.

Aw Gawd...not another one...

It's like a disease!

Move to a city, get a powerchair, save your shoulders.

There must be some places in Africa and Asia that have some sort of modern infrastructure without needing to resort to WW1 engineering to drive you across terrain that looks like a ploughed field?

Only if you are one of the 5% rich and live a different (corrupt?) lifestyle.

You should get on a plane and go look at the rest of the world. You live in one of the richest countries in the world, and most don't!

Some of it is OK, if you are making a film promoting it!

But:
Only if you are one of the 5% rich

Here are some of the less tasteful areas of Calcutta where the majority live outside the city centre - not shown in the video:

https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=calcu ... 77&bih=431

Disease, and weirdly fires, kill thousands in these truly massive slums.

Take Mumbai for EG. Some TWENTY MILLION live there. Seriously. But only 1 million live in "proper" housing if you can even call it that, inside Mumbai, the rest all live in massive slums outside and all around it...
