While in Alaska...... soe pictures of Aurora

Postby wilsonintexas » 06 Jul 2017, 20:56

I have been in Alaska for a year and a half helping my daughter.

I was able to hit one item on my bucket list, and see the aurora.

I actually bought a new camera when I came up here. I can connect it to my computer and control it remotely, which saves me from sitting out in the cold. I started with a tripod sitting out of the window, and roll the window down to aim the camera.

I recently bought an RV, and added a camera mount onto the antenna mast. Now I can sit inside a RV with a heater going, and point the camera where I want it. (I just have to climb on top of the RV to put it on...... and then again to take it off when I am done) I can even set the computer going, and have a full bed and bathroom.

I end up taking time lapse shots and making them into animated GIFS. They run in loops, all are pretty short.

If any one is interested, here is a link to an album on IMGUR that has the collection.

I tried to make it an embedded image, but this board did not like it.

It is now summer, and to light to shot more. BUT I may be able ot shoot some more in a few weeks.

If anyone is interested. I have a mail list set up and when I have a new set of shots, I send out an email. Send me an email with your details and I can add anyone that is interested.

You were fortunate to catch a look at the Northern Lights. I was visiting a cousin who was living in Squamish BC in the early 90's and had the same experience. It's really something to see.

Great pics. I saw the Aurora when I was a teenager on a northern Canadian fishing trip. Simply breathtaking.

Great pics. We could see the aurora fairly often in central Michigan, but I don't think it was ever as spectacular as that.

It has been a while since I have been around and I noticed that the links for my aurora pics are broken.

I have been here another winter, and have a few more shots. It was actually a bad year for viewing here in Anchorage. When the aurora was out so were the clouds.

Lately there have been good levels, but it is not dark enough. At 2 am it is just getting to twighlight. I can sit outside on my deck at 2AM and read a news paper.

anyhow the working link.

I did not embed the image. I can if you would like me to.
