Petrol cars are done with as of today.

600 miles range (1000km)

Faster than any petrol production car ever in every metric.
Over 250mph.
0 to 60mph? UNDER 2!
0 to 100mph? 4.2 secs.
And refuels for pennies!

Give it 3 to 5 years. And remember 600 miles is the BASE model.

Mass production, driven by open market competition (those damned capitalists trying to get rich again sacharlie) will make it cheap enough for the masses. Like sacharlie. But he will hate them for giving him something better and affordable and improving his standard of living, with better affordable cars, higher exports, huge tax gains overall, improved balance of payments, lots more US jobs an all. Cos he wants their MONEY!

I have a family member on the wait list for the Model 3. Its well behind schedule, and Tesla is burning through its $$$ pretty quickly. But I hope the company succeeds in a big way. They're about the most innovative thing to happen to the automotive world that I can remember.

Not to mention spacex, and putting men on mars, solar city, the biggest factory in the world (the gigafactory, making lithium batteries) or any of his other projects for the future or the past like hyperloop, the boring company or paypal...

Yep, all those.

Regarding Tesla, though, they look to be a long way from profitable. A long way. And low on money at the rate they're spending. But Musk is a superstar. Bezos' road for Amazon took a long time to make money as well. He steered the company through the dot-com implosion. But was one of few to do so. At some point Tesla will need to show it's capable of Musk's vision. I really hope it does.
