Is a power supply "so small and compact" reliable?

Is a power supply "so small and compact" durable?

The build quality is industrial server telecomunications. Its 10x better than the one you were looking at. Which looked cheap and nasty. Just look at the pictures compared to the hobby 20A one you showed. Theres is no comparison.

Plus.
A 20A supply running at maximum power (600 watts is at the edge of its performance.
A 3000 Watt supply running at just half its voltage capability, and 20Amps, which is nowhere NEAR its 50A capability is inherently more reliable.

In other words if you charge at 600 watts, that supply has 2400 watts to spare! :dance

That said, its cheap. Its chinese (but both are) and theres no garantees. All chargers and power supplies have a habit of failing. They are dealing with a lot of power.

Theres more design and quality components in the tiny power supply. And it is also a charger! Should you want to use it as one. I charged my van with it yesterday. You can set it as a 3 stage charger, with precise settings for MK, Odyssey, etc. It makes the manson power supply look like a school project as shirley says!

I need several configurations to adapt to temperature variation.

Yes. If its T shirt weather, you just put your hand on the battery, if its warmer than the desk, knock about .2v to .3V of the CV voltage!
If its really warm, like 30C and the battery is also warm, charge at 13.7V per battery.

I have been looking for power supplies for servers.
The power supplies for servers work for many hours at a time and are very reliable.
The quality is industrial and the price is affordable.

Options:

1> https://www.ebay.es/itm/24V-DC-1500W-60 ... 0#viTabs_0

* Good price.
* Connect and use.
* Fast shipping.
# I doubt if (for that price) the power source is really new.

2> https://www.ebay.es/itm/Dell-PowerEdge- ... SwTIhac28h

* Good price.
* Fast shipping.
# It does not have the output connectors ...

What do you think?

I think you should order the one from shirley, as its ADJUSTABLE voltage which is useful, way more power, already converted, and is also a server supply. And a 3 stage charger! Those are $60 and we already know are good. Right now theres no comparison. Get them while you can.

Does the shipment have a tracking number?

Does the shipment reach the door of the house?

I'm a man with bad luck ...

Do you have to weld or manipulate the source before using it?

No.

Weld? = solder. Still no.

Unless you order the fancy case, and then much assembly! And yes.

OK.

Also allows you to set a CC/CV charge setting too, with a termination you choose so can auto charge a battery if you want with no charger needed.

How to program that?

There are 3 threads on the main part of the forum. One explains how to work it! Have a read. Its actually quite easy, but initially looks complex. You soon get used to it.

To run his hobby charger I thought.

Been using mine for that next to my bed to top up a few chairs that are in storage brought in from the kitchen while my bladder infection goes away. Works OK. Fans a little noisy. But not worse than my other supplies or the PL8. I have become so used to power supply/charger fans that when I dont hear them its odd. And they are further away, on the floor, compared to the charger on the seat. And I need to look to see what I forgot to plug in so no swearing in the morning if I cant hear fans. Of course using a laptop/pl8 you cant forget or it wont connect and nothing on screen!

My PC is my server for web stuff, like this site, backups etc, and a movie server, and an ftp server where a freind backs up his companies programming code to every night. So it runs very quietly 24/7 throttled to almost silence. You can hear birds tweeting outside.

If its ever off, for some reason, I cant tell in the day. But when its time to sleep I notice its too quiet! And have to fix or start the PC.

Its water cooled with fanless power supply, but makes a soft "air" type sound. Audible at night. Just!
3X super silent 140mm radiator fans throttled to turn so slowly you can count the rotations when idle. And one 120mm case/water radiator graphics fan. If its not running, it sounds wrong!

I will use the PSU to charge (optimally - compensating the temperature) "MK" gel batteries.
The batteries of my powerchair.

I disagree. MK also disagree...

Look at the following graph. And remember that the OPTIMUM charge voltage is 13.8V for best cycle life at ROOM TEMPERATURE. And remember that in use, a battery warms, and while charging it also warms, a few degrees ABOVE ambient room temperature. So in summer, when the hot days are here, the battery will be even hotter! So if its 30C outdoors, your battery may be at 33? to 35? centigrade.

That means optimum charge voltage is just 13.4V for max cycle life, and the highest permissible voltage is 13.7V before gel damage, electrolyte loss happens:
Image2.gif

And now realise, that we normally charge at 14.1V per battery (the highest permissible at about 20C room temp, with a couple of degrees extra on the battery) but most generic mobility chargers charge at 14.4 to 14.7V.

Image1.gif

So you are REDUCING battery life by more than half! :shock: hanged

Heres another graph showing the effect of temp V charge voltage for the MK gel.
Image3.gif

Which is why:
