To Buy a Power Supply - Wanted.

Postby martin007 » 13 Apr 2018, 00:25

Is there any way to buy on Ebay "UK" from abroad?
I think it looks good, but "Postage: May not post to Spain"

The power supply is used, not ex-demo.
Will it be a good choice?

Yes thats what mine said. It will be new or ex demo, and will be sold from the "back door"... I would buy.

Send them an ebay message and just ask them if they will post to Spain. If they don't I might buy it myself.

There come up every 4 to 6 months at best. So soon snapped up. So whovever wants it better get on with it! It will be unmarked, boxed as new, and with never used cable. I have bought a few. Same seller, from that company. They are ones that reps carry to show customers I think.

I will send an email to the seller to ask if he can send it to Spain.

Under contact seller then select postage it says

"Do you offer international postage?
This seller doesn't offer international postage."
But who knows, they might post if you have a good account.

If the seller does not ship to Spain, do you say that you could send it to me?
I would pay you for Paypal.

I live in Northern Ireland so they always take the piss and charge extra for postage to here. I bet the postage will be about £18 then the postage to Spain.

I have sent them a message asking what the postage will be to my postcode but I don't think I will get a reply until Monday.

Postage to Spain will not be cheap either. Using parcelforce 2KG 40cm x 40cm x 40cm with only £100 insurance.

I propose one thing to you.

You buy the power supply now.
If we find a (cheap) shipping form to Spain, I will pay you the source + shipping.
Otherwise you can keep the power supply.

OK?
You understand me?

I think Burgerman is saying the extra costs involved is not worth it for the supply. You might get cheaper elsewhere.
I will buy it on Monday if its still there. But I can see the total cost for the supply plus postage to me then postage to Spain coming to somewhere under €500.

oops
£230 for supply
£20 postage to me
£70 postage to you (this is a guess based on 2KG)
£320 = €370

The thing is heavy! The box and packaging is 1kg. The power supply may 8kg at a guess?

Found:

SM3040. PSU, BENCH, 40A; Power Supply Output Type:Adjustable; No. of Outputs:1; Output Voltage:30V; Output Current:40A; Power Ra... Datasheet ... Supply Type:Bench; Supply Voltage:220V; Supply Voltage Max:240V; Supply Voltage Min:110V; Supply Voltage Typ:110V AC / 220V AC; Weight Min:7kg

So 1kg box and packaging plus cable, and 7kg supply. So 8kg or 18lb. The thing is full of bricks!

@martin007: At the beginning, you could pick a cheap power supply converted from an used server PSU (720W or more). Its price should be less than $100. Just use 12V instead of 24V, everything would work fine with PL8. In the mean time, you can continue hunting a pro power supply from a more convenient ebay seller.

There has been some reliability issues with those. You may be fine.

20A not enough power. Its a heavy linear power supply rather than switch mode. 17kg... And less efficient.

What a complex it is.

I will look for a switched mode power supply.

* Now I know that switched-mode power supplies are more efficient.
