Healing butt sores and scrapes while sitting.

I use the Supracor Stimulite cushions for that. Just cut out the area in the cushion to match where the sore or injury is. It works for my stage 1 & 2 scores or scrapes. Pressure is off the area and plenty of air get to the wound; both the necessary benefits derived from lying in bed to heal. I hate lying in bed to heal.

Me too. But I am suspicous that the regular ischeal tuberosity (sitting bone) issue I keep getting is actually being caused by transfering and not sitting. By board.

I wonder about transfer boards myself. Those finger holes look like trouble. All of em are right in the center of the board. Why they don't move em just inside the edge so most of the board smooth and solid beats me. I asked for that and the reply was that's not an option.

My board has no holes. DIY plywood, polished, and waxed and smooth. But your bones and 2mm of skin sit directly on it as you slide along, and on/off it...

I've been impressed with the low friction "plastic" circle devises made for moving furniture. I wonder d a simple plywood board could be coated with that for transfer. I agree, transfer boards would be better with NO holes than the wrong locations. Or the very ends beyond where person uses it.

My PT clinic uses their own DIY. Polished aluminum. No holes!

My board is super polished and waxed. But the problem is this. Where my IT bones are, used to be covered with muscle and fat 22 years back... But not doing any walking means its all wasted away. So now theres just 2 bones and some skin. With 20 stone on top of it as I transfer. So imagine sliding that weight across on your knuckle... Same thing. So I suspect that the board is causing the biggest problem. Esp as its always the same spot and as big as a penny, and raw. :problem: So today I slid across without a board, and it was not easy. Just a towel between bed and chair. I was knackered... And getting back later was even harder.

You might try leaning over onto your hip into the direction you are sliding. Pull yourself into the bed as opposed of pushing yourself out of the chair. Pull yourself into the chair just enough to do a final butt lift into your chair.

Much as you dislike the nuisance and looks, you may have a choice between continued sores and using a lift. Which is worse?

Well... I do have one (3 actually... That they insisted I needed. But its such a fight. None of them reach past my fixed footplate and so I end up half falling out. But I may not have a choice if it turns out that the cushion doesent cure the problem alone.

I got one of those curbsider hoist used to load power chairs into the back of a SUV, intending to use for chair to bed transfers. The boom swings ~90°. With that setup you don't need an attendant to help.

Do a Google image search and you'll see more brands than I could throw up here.
...hoist AND curbsider OR curb-sider OR powerchair OR scooter OR BRUNO

Mine is a bruno.

BM, I seem to remember you bought the oxygen concentrator to see if that helped heal the sores. Did it help, or have you given up on it?

I dont think it helps. But was an interesting try! It only increases blood oxygen levels if they are low to start with. Mine were temporarily due to a chest/bladder infection, so it plrobably helped for around 5 weeks. But its still reassuring to have as I get chest infections and struggle to get breath at times due to diaphram control being missing on spinal injury people. Makes coughing and breathing less efficient.

Difficult to imagine how horrible it must be not to be able to cough. I seem to be doing it all the time! My cord damage is L2 to S1 so respiratory muscles are OK but I do now have to use bottled oxygen for COPD palliative care. Too many years of smoking have left me with irreparable lung damage. Without the oxygen the blood sats would rarely get much over the upper 80s at rest. Shame it didn't do much for your sores but with your breathing difficulties I'm surprised your GP didn't get O2 prescribed for you.

Its not bad enough for that. Most paraplegics/quads cant use diaphram but you use chest muscle instead. Or is it the other way around? Only thing it changes really is coughing...
