Transformer

Anyone know where I can find a 220v ac to 11.2v ac transformer for an A/C unit? I bought a brand new window unit and it never worked. Rather than replace it, the company told me to cut the cord and they gave me a full refund. I think the only thing wrong is this transformer:

That says that it gives 11.2V at 400mA. It may well be 16 volts unloaded, or 9 volts loaded more. But I doubt it is critical.

You just need a 11v ish power supply. AC...

Take a look at some of those cheap wall wart things. Not a switch mode one. But a transformer one. A regulated 6 or 9 volt one may have a suitable transformer inside?

But first have you tested it?
Power it up, measure output... Make it run about .4A. So a resistor of 5W 30 ohm will do that. Then it should read 11.2V give or take a bit.

When the A/C is plugged in, it reads 220v on the transformer input side, but nada on the output side. The A/C won't turn on (never would). Nothing at the control face. Also, the Reset/Test LED on the plug won't light up, but 220 is flowing through the cord. Has to be transformer, eh?

No. Something may be shorting it.

Disconnect one of the secondary 11v wires. Then measure AC transformer output on your multimeter and tell me what it says? Be sure its set to AC!

Try not to blow yourself up. :fencing

And when measuring 240V in, tell me you are not using a cheap 2.99 meter from ebay! I had lots of 240vac shocks, and it hurts. Because its really 380V peak.

You dont know yours is faulty yet... :fencing

A diode goes short circuit failed, and you read 0 volts...
