We have a member in n.carolina. Sully. Soon to be swept away. Hopefully he has moved somewhere else for a bit. Or is this another media over exaduration thing of a windy day by some drama queen? As is often the case since viewing figures are more important than reality.

This storm has sustained winds of 140mph at ground level - it's category 4 (and the scale only goes to 5). The evacuation orders are well warranted. It could, of course, change direction, but if it gets near you are in serious trouble.

So sully better be gone or underground. Having done 140 mph at very least, for decades and many of times on naked bikes across europe I know what a 140mph wind feels like. I now have no neck, its is all muscle! It is unbelievably difficult to do unless you get used to it overmany years. Physically saps all your strength. Tries to blow you and your head off. I cannot understand how any trees, buildings remain standing at that sort of wind speed.

They say it will build more strength and have 180mph peak winds. Only surfers will be going towards the sea. Thats pretty fast! And 20 to 30 inches of rain! We panic if we get 2!

That's hurricanes for you! Hugely dangerous because it's making landfall, as they occasionally do. At sea there is less damage from them. Small ships in hurricanes can bob like corks, if they are safe from collisions/breaking up (that's for big ships)/blowing into the shore.

Yes but its the 30 INCHES or rain. Remember that it doesent sit on high spots! :cussing

2 inches of rain can cause 30 foot flood waters.

Mangkhut is getting worse, and changing direction towards hongkong...

Not exactly helping the people in philipinnes, esp the ones with how shall we put it politely. Lightweight houses. But for them its bad. 9 foot hugher seas... Anyway, hong kong gets it next by the look of things in a few days. Sunday. So tie yourself to something high up and substantial. :ambulance At least hong kong looks a lot more substantial. And we want vids.

And us is gettinga lot of water.
