"For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

Well I dont bother with it. But many here do. Even though the UK is basically a non religous country. We have a holiday on the 25th, we wish each other happy holidays. Well I dont as I am a miserable bar steward! :clap But I do partake of drunk2. But I do that anyway.

What you seldom see here is much mention of religous stuff. I have about 16 cards. Non show anything religous or mention it. Most school plays etc. or TV, today do something unrelated to religion too. All that superstitious nonsense has almost gone from tHe UK. So food, booze, and a few days off work in a secular end of year holiday here. The religous nuts only stole Christmas in any case. Long before xstians were around it was celebrated as a pagan holiday, a celebration of the end of the dark, the beginning of the light. The shortest day is actually the 21st but they couldn't measure that accurately... The religous nuts just copied it for there own and called it Christ Mas. Its not really. So we just have a party! So all us heathens and atheists in the UK actually have more of a right to celebrate in a secular way than the xstians do. But still. I cant be bothered with it. Its real purpose is to let business give you a guilt complex about buying a load of stuff you wouldn't do otherwise. And marketing and advertising only works on stupid people.

what ever - Mostly Kids look forward to it - because of its traditions and upbringing etc, - but mostly adults its more about being together - family - food - drink etc, and of course the stress comes along with it - i dont mind it - its a celebration for who ever - and what ever they believe or not - either way its just a nice time of year to reflect on life maybe - be thankful for what we have and not worry about things we dont or cant have etc, -

either way its a family thing - more for the kids i think - like the fairly tooth good mother - who leaves you money under your pillow when you loose a baby tooth etc, - something like that - fictional stories for the kids - its a fun time for them. would be nice if we as people can be kind and nice to eachother all year round -

dosnt last much longer than new years - - take it easy - eat drink - chat with family - etc and be happy - and warm - its cold here

In Russia, we do not celebrate Catholic Christmas. We have an Orthodox Christmas on January 7, but it is also celebrated only by religious people. Our main winter holiday is the New Year. Without any religious basis. And I love it! Everyone is happy, relax, give gifts. And it is fun. In addition, we have obtained a long weekend (over a week) and have the opportunity to go somewhere and see all the family and friends.

So, all a Happy New Year!

My ex gf also does your orthodox xmas, or she would if she was a believer. So she does a new year holiday, as do most of us. From 31st to about 2nd or 3rd jan. Any excuse for a party is good for us here in the UK! :shh: cheers But as you say. Its usually a non religous thing. So have a good new year!

That's not exactly true.

Only students (and their teachers) have so many holidays. The rest of most professions only have holidays 25-26 and 31-1 and a few on January 6, the rest of the days are worked, except politicians, who never work and only looking for trouble, finding it everywhere, diagnosing it incorrectly and applying the wrong remedies. :D

Happy holidays and new year!!
