A little shelf project for the new deck

Postby flagman1776 » 13 Jan 2019, 18:11

Since the wife has vetoed firing the big cannon from her new deck... I undertook a small project. Working around my challenges... it took an incredible amount of effort. (I'll leave it at that, since no one here needs to hear me whine.)

It's a deck rail shelf...

Cat for scale... does my butt look big from this angle? It'll probably be a cat perch.

Shelf can be moved as needed. A bit of slop as the deck rail measurements vary slightly. I fitted an outside rail to help keeping things from going off the long fall gulch.

The mini-cannon is designed to use firecrackers for propellant but firecrackers are illegal in my state. I'd really rather not hit the expensive horse trailer I want to sell.
We own 8 acres... in the middle of 14,000 acres of public land.

The mini-cannon was built for me... the builder demo'd it: https://youtu.be/WMX9CAKoueM

I have a lathe here. I am going to build one. I already have a 2 inch x 18 inch bit of brass that will do. Been looking at that for years. Wondering what to do with it. You can buy 1/2 inch or 20mm / 3/4 inch lead balls on ebay for fishing weights.

And I have a lapsed powder license, for doing stage shows (live bands from 25 years ago) so once renewed can buy 2kg of black powder at a time.

8 acres = (3.24 ha) in the middle of 14,000 acres (5665.6 ha)

Do you live in the middle of the woods?

Actually turning a barrel is the easy fun part... attaching the trunions is challenging. A proper carriage, built to scale is more complicated & expensive.

How is life (in a powerchair) in the middle of the woods?

Probably need a shotgun certificate to fire a tiny cannon.

Life in the woods was much better when my horse was still alive. If I could get up, he was my legs... we did lots of things together.

My MS has now progressed so I can barely stand to transfer or rollator a few steps. That is not good at all in the woods. We just built a new deck / ramp so I can get out. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=7966
