2.4Ghz is very crowded. And slow.

5Ghz is way, way, faster and theres only me! You should all use it.

Oh and I have taken over the 2.4 and 5ghz bands.

Open a command prompt

Type: ping google.com
And press enter. Tell me the slowest or largest response time.
7 to 12ms is perfect.

Anything more can be better. I get 8ms to 10ms normally. Thats how fast every request is responded to. And much more important than download speed.

Click change server - thats terrible, way slower than your google ping time. And low bandwidth as well. Find a faster test centre.

From my laptop.
Its usually well over 100 but I am also downloading about 8 movies in 4k at the same time on my desktop machine. So is giving me about half... 55mbps

Ping is in the normal/slow range for here at 11ms. Varies from 7 to 12 depending on how busy the web is...

Your google ping times are pretty good. The speed test server was 4 times worse at 52ms so test a different speed test! That one isnt working right.

My Google Ping is horrendous but my speedtest seems pretty good. I pay for 300Mbps and only get that wired. This is my laptop with about 30 "incidentals" running (Smart Lights, TV's, phones, etc...).

5GHz wifi is fast certainly, but its not as good at penetrating walls etc as 2.4GHz wifi. So it kind of depends on your setup.

Pretty good. 8ms ping is ok, google may be slow today! I just tried it again and got 17 and 18ms pings from it. Its normally super fast.

They keep upgrading me for free to the 200 one. And then put the price up later. So I tell them I want 100... Its way faster than i actually need.

I noticed a thing...

You only have on 2.4ghz chanels 1, to 11 in the US. No channels 12 and 13? (Or 14. in some areas.) See image in post 1.

So... Logically if you were to use wifi adapter or wifi firmware from UK / EU you would gain 2 unused channels that nobody else is using? Maybe just change a country code or something in registry or in the wifi router.

I hadn't noticed that. If I ever run out of channels all to myself I'll definitely look into it!
However, I have my router set to Auto, even though it hasn't changed channels since I manually set them. It seems 99% of Americans either use the cable company's router or their own cheap version and never change the settings. We've been in our home for a year and after I bought my own router and separate WiFi I have always had channel 9 for 2.4G and 153 for 5G all to ourselves. As a matter of fact just looking now, there are 9 other wifi in range and every one of them are the old Brighthouse which has been bought by Spectrum or the rebranded routers called SpectrumWiFi. So, ignorance of others is more wifi for me. :dance
What I truly hate is Spectrum (Cable/internet provider) is the only vendor that will service my address. And, since the rest of the family needs TV of some sort I decided on PlaystationVue. It gives us the 5 connections at once we need, Cloud recording for each profile. Dang racket (I wish I got in on 20 years ago or so).

Well in the next 2 to 3 years you wont have this problem.

a. musk is launching his version of skynet. Promises to be super low latency and fast and cheap and the whole planet! And at least 2 other companies promising the same. In the african desert? No worries!
b. phone networks are all about to go 5G which is basically the same. Although likely to be expensive per GB data.

I already use slower 4G this way from a tiny phone card in my laptop in a hidden slot. This is on pay as you go. Its configured to use wifi, 5ghz, then 2.4ghz, then if all else fails it uses my 4G pay as you go card. Which is OK, but you wouldnt want to be downloading movies at 4k... And its not low latency so you feel a slight delay.
