Powering a ventilator

Postby aksel » 25 Mar 2019, 20:55

I wasn't sure what section to put this in....

I'm powering my ventilator while out and about and at work
https://www.aarc.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/lp10_clinicians_manual.pdf

with a 12v battery U-1 size, I believe it's 36Ah. It lasts me approximately 14 hrs.

Because the draw is consistent could I use something like this and gain more charge cycles?

Yes. As long as you dont mind losing about half its service life due to the BMS bouncing the cells to 3.8V or so while charging. But for that capacity, its physically very big. 4X seperate low rate high capacity cells, would be much more compact. Or you could have double the Ah and the same physical size of battery.

4 cells like this, http://www.tenergy.com/30282 or similar from cheap china.
Will be about 25 to 30 dollars each. Plus a hobby charger. Plus delivery. Smaller, lighter. And no BMS. So will last twice as long.

Dear Customer,

I am sorry that the battery 30282 is no longer available for small quantity off the shelf purchase. Minimum production volume is in high hundreds or more.

I wasnt suggesting you contact them There are thousands of similar cells available across all the chinese auction sites, and various other suppliers. And maybe shirley here has a recomendation and can supply what you need at a good price.

Cool, so with 4 I'll link them in serial, place them in a box (without touching one another), and charge them with a hobby charger.

I'm going to London in June, I'm guessing I can't take it with me?

Correct!
The PL8 with a suitable preset that I can give you is by far the best way.

Take it with you?
Dont know. Its complicated...

Ok, the PL8 sounds good because I can also use it to charge my scooter when I finally put together that 30ah add-on pack.

I plan on getting two new lead bricks for the scooter right before I go to London.
